Trouble getting NCT........ HELP!!!!!

Hi all!!
I'm having a lot of trouble getting my type r through the ba*tard NCT :new_2gunsfiring_v1:
I put the standard down pipe and the removable silencer back in for the test. Landed it into the test centre, listened to them idiots revving the balls out of it for about 4mins solid, then to be told it has failed on the emissions (1.07, limit is 1.03) and the noise.
Sound I said, il borrow a complete standard exhaust system just for the test. Fitted that, got my father to bring it in cuz I was working. He rings me an hour later......... its failed again!!! Its worse the bloody emissions have got, 1.17 this time!! The tester also told him that he couldnt test the noise cuz the emissions werent right :ponder2:
Anyway that was December and I parked it up for the winter anyway. Between 1 thing and another i'm only getting around to getting it sorted again, but the thing is I dont know what to do now to get it passed. After changing the downpipe and then the complete system, I dont know what else to do???
Anyone any suggestions on what will get me sorted for the emissions and the noise?? I'm mad to get her back on the road for the summer.
Thanks in advance!!

from the emmission reading your sayin as max {1.03} im presumin its lambda its failing on that being the case you have an air leak at the engine or at the exhaust it could also be low on fuel pressure when did ya fit a fuel filter last

Unless all wasnt tightened up when the system was changed? Might check that. She would have got a fuel filter around 5000miles ago.

Change your Lambda sensor. That should sort the emissions. If it then fails a third time then change your MAF sensor.
I am in exactly the same boat as you. Failed twice on emission. Just havent had to time to sort it.

Did you bring it for a good run before going to test :dontknow:

HAHA my results were wayyyyyyy over limit so no amount of spirited pre NCT drive would have worked :icon_biggrin:

on my downpipe there was a thin sensor and then the second 1 is jus normal 02 sensor im jus runnin 1 now on my de-cat the 2nd 1 is plugged out

mine is a type r as above and it plugs into factory wiring in the car beside the boost solenoid etc ill get pic up for proof

the issue is not emissions as such.. if co2 and hydro carbons are passing then it is not cat related and not lambda sensor related as the emissions are not too high.. no amount of fuel addicitive (which I really wouldnt recommend in a turbo car anyway) will help.

the issue is the reading in the rail pipe is too lean.. now it is unlikely the fuelling at the engine is actually too lean as you would see hydrocarbons and co2 failing too as you get unburnt fuel in the exhaust vapour if the engine is too lean.. the issue is likely to be an exhaust leak either manifold(headers) or exhaust and there is air being sucked into the exhaust therefore causing the lambda to be too high (too lean) reading.. try a new set of gaskets..

one at the top of the downpipe is the lambda sensor, the bottom is an egt sensor but is fondly know as the cat on fire sensor..

it is unrelated to ecu but a separate circuit that illuminates a picture of a cat on the dash if it exceeds a set egt.. you can usually just unplug and remove and the light remains off.
its fitted to JDM cars 93~96 and the occasional 97 car.

You could still bring it for a good run before test.At least you will have a smile on your face before fretting in the waiting room. :icon_lol:

lol

perhaps not wise to take it too far is nct has expired lol

Thanks a million for all the suggestions lads
An exhaust leak seems to be the general consensus. Gaskets would be the next step so. Would it be just the 1 gasket between the downpipe and the turbo?
Also, is there any quick fix for the noise issue?
