tuning problem

hi all just wondering what ye think of this.I got my 98 sti type-r mapped recently,It was going ok but i thought it would be bit quicker.after a week i gave it a blast in 2nd gear and it started to run very bad found the maf sensor was blown so replaced it.everything seemed fine until the other day it wouldnt boost in low down gears at high revs and the engine light flashed.Took it back to guy that mapped it today and he plugged in to the power fc and it showed no faults so i drove it hard with laptop connected,he then told me that the injectors and maf were maxing out at high revs and there was no more he could do with it because the engine is worn and would blow up if anymore was done. Now i paid this guy 350euro only a few weeks ago and to be honest im not a bit happy.I really dont think the car is mapped right. When he originaly mapped it I asked him should we fit a boost controller or feul pressure regulator he said there was no need that he could map it just using power fc.Is that correct? I dont think it is.Now i dont want to push car hard in case its detonating.Any advise?

if it was you id get a specialist to look at it maybe
someone like dave in sti tuning
i think your right not to push it until you know for sure what the problem is

it sounds like it was not mapped properly you need a specialist to map it also good idea to check your fuel pressure plenty of good lads on here that can sort it for ya

is there any mods done to the car? is the car a v4 or v5, different maf sensor in each car and one is stronger than the other

why i ask this is because the injectors should be fine on a standard turbo for that sort of power and the maf senser should be grand aswell as i know a few lads running 350 bhp and more on a standard subaru maf.

i think you will need a boost controller with the power fc.

you wont need an adjustable fuel pressure reg if it standard either.

who mapped your car???????????????????????

If it was mapped with a dodgy maf in it then with a new one fitted it would have different air flow etc. I would have thought a tweak map would sort it out.

Second that (bad MAF affecting the MAP). If you need it looked at, give us (Couture Auto) a shout during the week. 018253949 and we can see what it's like.

However, if the boost is not going up, there could be some other problem too.

nick, should the mapper not have noticed it was (maf) fooked

If the MAF was well bollixed, you would not be able to map it at all.

However, if it is only on the way out, it can be quite difficult to tell.

Thanks for the feedback lads,i wont name names but the guy that mapped it is around a good while and has a good few fast track, road cars himself.Ya he did say that alright about the maf sensor being a different one now then when he mapped it,but when he mapped it originaly the old maf seemed fine. Thanks nick I will give you a ring next week about it as its no good to me as it is.When he was looking at laptop he seemed spooked about something and straight away said engine could be in trouble and he had no interest in working on it again, which i found very strange.

Im fairly certain of who mapped your car as I think I had the same mapper and my standard type R is mapped with just a power FC (no boost controller or fuel pressure regulator) and running fine for the last 4 years.

I'd say a tweak map with a new MAF sensor will sort the problem.

ya your probably right, it was mapped on what looked like the original maf and now there is a brand new one on it.After saying that you'd think the parameters of the mafs would be the same.Im deffinately ticked off with the bad attitude of the mapper,he just didnt seem interested.I wouldnt recomend him to anyone if im honest.

Andy C what mods has your car? has it always ran well since mapped? Mine just has full exhaust, induction kit, dump valve, fmic, walbro feul pump, ngk plugs.Mine is supposed to be 1.2bar but i dont think it is.

hey lad, pretty much have the same mods on my type r, but are you running a apexi ecu and a airfilter?
dont think that works....maf is very sensitive.
if you had the simtek it elimanates the maf, dont think the apexi does that. i could be wrong but i dought it.

not sure bout the rest of your problems.

best not to mention mappers or tuning companys, just causes unwanted trouble

apexi do a maf delete kit for the power fc my friends v5 type r had an apexi in it and had no probs with maf and was running fine but was mapped properly :dontknow:
