There is confidence for you!

As far as I know, the new age STI's are stronger and they go happily to 8,000
Classics have a different bottom end so might need 500 rpm grace,
If she's mapped and well maintained, and if she is still pulling well at the top of the rev range then rev her on and enjoy the close ratio 'box!
No need to be afraid of her, just show her the respect she deserves and she be grand!

Just incase you don't already know!
Big things to avoid with scoobies, are Make sure she is mapped for the type of fuel you are running and any changes to the hardware typically require a tweek!
Don't do Dohnuts unless you have a baffled sump, because all the oil goes to one side under high lateral G's and she'll run dry!
And service regularly with good quality oil and genuine oil filter!

torque is dropping off at 5500rpm and peak power is around 7000rpm? so absolutely no point in revving to the redline it would make for a quicker change to shift at 7000 or just before

It would be cool to have the opertunity to do a test, where you would start from tick over in first gear, floor it, and change up at say 4,500rpm in every gear so she comes back to peak torque with every change!
Then increase the revs in each gear to definatively show when is the best time to shift up!!

That would be possible with this if you have an OBD2 connection in your car.

just saying that the actual redline is 8000 on the rev counter, obvious statement i know. never reved my type r past 7000 rpm when i had it, when giving it socks it was always around 6500-6750..that was when it was quickest to change i felt

I never drove a standard type r myself,
So I'll bow to your experiance,
