tyre legalities

Im just wondering what makes tyres legal?
Is it just the "E" mark?
If a tyre is "E" marked then does it automatically become road legal no matter what the tread pattern?

Or is there a certain tyre tread pattern that makes them road legal?
Been trying to find the answer to this all we and can't come up with much info with any clarity

I would have thought E marked and 1.6mm of thread depth myself.

So for talks sake Andy.....
If i was to get a set of tyres with this kinds tread pattern, once they are "E" marked and have plenty of rubber on them they would be road legal??

What are you planning now????????

As what andy said over 1.6mil and e marked you should be fine.

Off road, agricultural, spikes, square etc could get you in trouble

Cheers Mark...
Might use these as tyres for second set of wheels!
Not sure how they would work in the wet haha

e mark is european mark basically to show there tested and up to the standards the nct brought it in a while ago all tyres have to be e marked so much chinese rubbish out there not e marked and i seen a lot of them fail not nice so basically stoppin them been imported into the country and 1.6 is your legal thread limit anythin under is not road legal but i seen alot of cars passin with less than 1.6mm

Yea I know what ya mean Tommy,
My cars not a daily, and these would only be on my second set of wheels tbh

Toyo R888 are road legal but I wouldn't like to have them on on a wet winters night :icon_biggrin:
