urban performance fmic

just wondering has anyone got one of these off urban, thinking of mapping the bug after the nct and wouldnt mind a fmic.
If someone has gotten one off urban what are they like build wise, quality wise and performance wise as I'm a bit wary of the kit seen that its under 400 euro new i think and other kits such as aps and blitz are well over a grand.
Would it because its not a big named brand that they are so cheap or got to do with quality ?

cheers in advance

The jdm ones are always mental money and well over priced. I'm thinking the kits in urban performance might actually be HDI intercoolers which are pretty well made. Getting one for mine over the next few weeks. About 400 delivered too

Waste of money unless you are upgrading the turbo Chris, wont add anything to the car. Spend the money on a 3 port solenoid and some handling goodies instead

unless he maps it :dontknow:

Any gains over a top mount would be minimal at the top end of those power levels, and you'll get a slight increase in lag from it.

cheers for the advice robbie, wont be upgrading the turbo just yet  3 port it is then and what handling goodies would you recommend. I'll be defo dropping upto to you early in the new year to give you money for the full membership ( yes its just an excuse to see the spec c )

no real need for 3 port solenoid unless mapper cant get boost stable with a 2 port. i thought most of the sti's came with a 3 port though? Car can run a lot safer with FMIC due to no issues with heatsoak sitting on top of the engine, any lag introduced is easily fixable by decent mapper. A lot of kits come with 3" piping which are the ones with the whopper airflow but also the biggest lag. Some kits keep the size to 2.5" to help minimise this. If you want one, go for it, will lay the foundation for when you do ever get a bigger turbo!

You could sort the handling and braking first them move on to power mods

As with Robbie.

No need for a FMIC with standard turbo. A good panel filter like K&N is fine for induction.

A 3 port is not an absolute must and on original ecu will be fine with a 2port but on a aftermarket ecu would advise a 3port defo for best boost control.

No most STi's dont have 3ports as Standard.

A 3 port will hold better better boost so you get less of a drop off after the peak boost. You also get more stable boost and the mapper can take advantage of this rather than having to account for the bigger variance from the 2 port.

But why would you still want to spend over €400 on a fmic and have a mapper account for the lag. Its a simple volume formula anyway, a mapper can do there best but the extra couple of metres of piping means it still has all that to fill before getting to peak pressure. Why would you want to do that when the top mount is still more than capable of doing the job. And then even if he does get smaller front mount pipes, he'll have to change them out when/if he gets a bigger turbo..

I can understand you doing it on the legacy as your scoop is so small but the impreza scoop will provide more than enough air for the top mount and he won't have to rape the front end of his car..

Instead of the front mount, I'd get an ALK, an anti-roll bar and you could probably get droplinks as well within budget

You're more than welcome up whenever suits man

Ye you would be lucky to get a fart through my scoop! Nic is doing fairly well with his FMIC and looks to be a pretty good fit with minimal cutting. His is a HDI kit aswell i think. Maybe the twinscrolls don't suffer from the lag as much. There is so many different opinions on whether to go front mount or not its hard to know what info is best

You saw what the heatsoak did to your figures Robbie on the dyno day, i know thats a unique environment that the car is rarely subjected to. but would behave similar in traffic and act the same way when gunning it from the lights( not saying you ever do that!) Im going to try it out on mine and see how it gets on!

Try it if you want Chris once your bumper doesnt require too much modification to make it fit, you can always get 2nd hand bumper and cut that up instead!

You impreza lads have it so much easier when it comes to mods!

i dont think there's a down side to fitting a front mount, i put one on my type r with a standard turbo, it sounds great and anyone with a front mount will tell you that, the flutter is savage and then fitting a front mount you have to change your air filter to a cone type or similar and you get a lovely sound then too.

yes it might not give to much gain but it will look savage and sound amazing plus if your doing any track days it will help with temps and will give better cooling all round

im in the process of ordering a hdi fmic from america(only place available) . seem to be the best for the budget range rather than goin perrin ,or aps which can be up to 4 times the price .the new x01-r is tube and fin rather than bar and plate and has got some very good reviews (harvey) . but ive a bigger turbo and a few other bits to put on aswell to compliment each other .

if anyone else was intrested in one let me know asap.

The "fluttering" is compressor surge also known as "wastegate chatter" to some uneducated people, its air coming back through the turbo, thats BAD,I have a serious problem with mine doing that, it was down to the dump valve fitted,a HKS heap of shite.
I changed it to a forge recirculating type and cured the problem.
I think the "fluttering" sounds absolutely shite and get annoying on a daily driver thats why I researched it tofnd the cause of it.

You could fit fmic upside down so piping is to top of bumper.
Shortens the amount of piping needed so will reduce some of lag with
Fmic.
See it on Scoobyireland lad did it that way.

Seen that, great job it was on a legacy though, you might not have the room at each side of the rad with the headlights in an impreza though unfortunetly
