urban performance fmic

He did it on impreza, pit of work doing it but
waste pipes joined together measured up to 1.63m in saving on piping.
here's what he said

"fitted a fmic to my 95 ra but decided to mount it upside down and re-routed pipework to make it a lot shorter.... work in progress
aircon must stay!
front panel under headlights need cut out to all i/c pipes to go directly to intercooler
bumper support beam needs to be extensively modified to allow silicone elbows to connect to i/c pipes
support beam braced and welded"

There was loads of picture but there not showing up on site

that sounds savage nick.

mine was like that too but not as load i dont think, keiths sounds like that too.

i actually like the sound better when not given it that much

Here's the kind of fluttering i get Ken, come's back through the K&N cone

So what is it that gives that noise is it the combo of a front mount with the cone filter and bov setup you have?

Tbh I couldn't tell you exactly Dan, maybe someone with a proper explanation will shed some light upon it thought if they would be so kind

I agree Johnny, I do find myself playing at trying to see how long I can get it to keep going :)

You not afraid of damaging the turbo? Some lads like the noise but I personally think it sounds shite

Each too their own I suppose Baz, i'm in the like camp :) from what I've been told it's no harm to the turbo and I plan on a turbo upgrade next year anywho so no fear here .

The fluttering has notting to do with fitting a Front mount,
The fluttering sound is what Baz has said, if you havent got a dump valve or recirc valve then air has to go back through the blades of turbo when you let foot off..
If your still using the standard recirc valve and put an induction cone on, you can here the air coming back through filter...as its plumbed back into itake hose...

But fitting a front mount does not give you the sound, only one of the above.

Running no DV or recirc valve is not good for standard turbos, but after market beefed up turbos have no problem with it...

To give you some more to think on.... remember it was always said that a DV helps turbo spool up....Wrong... well most of the bigger bhp cars dont run a DV as not running one is ment to help spool up once its mapped for it... Anyone figure that one out??

Baz... how can you say Compressor surge is the same thing as wastegate chatter??? :ponder2: :dontknow:

No such thing a waste gate chatter Ken, I was just pointing out that some people refer to that fluttering as "waste gate chatter"

 Learn something new everyday  Thats an external waste gate , MOST cars on here have internally gated turbos which dont make that sound.

What I was trying to put across in that first post though was that people that dont know what they are talking about refer to the fluttering/compressor surge or compressor stall as "wastegate chatter"

They all make the sound, internal or ext, external waste gates that are venting to atmosphere will off course be loudest, then ext waste thats plumbed back into down pipe, but the internal waste gate in standard fit turbos will make noise aswell, just far less and not as audible...

The whole mix up i beleive comes from looking at WRC cars, with Proper anti lag, when they let off throttle they stiil had boost and everyone heard this racket , and heard it was called waste gate chatter, then they heard there own car with vacum pipe of dv or something.. let off throttle and they instantly too had WRC cars and thought they had waste gate chatter:)

On the FMIC.... I always thought that the Bar and plate was ment to be the better Core??
