Hi all,

Just said I’d ask the question before I jump…

Car is a wrx sti 96 - v2

General upkeep - timing done, all oils changed not even 100klm ago. It’s flying.

Engine Mods
ECS - FMIC
RCM induction kit
Greddy oil catch can
Greddy oil cooler
3 port boost solenoid
3” Howard and Scott exhaust

What I’m planning is a G4X ECU upgrade with tune by Richard Bradley hopefully.

Has anyone on this forum done this before ,I’m sure they have and is the car much different to drive ,response wise.

What did you opt for ?
Thanks

Ive the G4X and tuned by AP in Galway.
Its a V3 STI RA and made 320bhp. Car is a rocket and just goes. I wanted the upgrade as didn’t like the engine running on a ECU from 30 years ago.
Car is fantastic and just starts and never a bit of issue with it. (Apart from needing a tweak to the map when I changed the turbo to a fresh reconditioned one)

The FMIC is what will make the biggest difference. Means you won’t get heat soak, so just power when you want it.

It’s a great way to modernise the car
Have just bought a Link ecu aswell , previously had an Alcatek which was a great ecu aswell but old Technology now ,
10% off for March as well

Thank you all , it’s great to get information before doing anything. It’s key to making a good car.

Thought about going a bit further with the heat soak ,new radiator and bigger fan also. Have you ever seen anyone run an air conditioning coil across the front of the FMI . Just something I’m playing with

I’ve a aluminium rad as old one was getting rotten so changed it.
When on the dyno a few weeks ago the tuner noted how cool the intake temp’s were. I don’t get heat soak at all. From what I’ve seen once you have a good FMIC it’s just not an issue

It’s a great idea often thought of it aswell but wouldn’t be needed here with a decent intercooler core ,
I had high charge temps with a japspeed intercooler after 2 runs on the dyno ,
On advice from Ap I bought a Garret core and got end tanks welded on and the temps reduced significantly and gave 50hp extra at the same boost level so a big jump from 400 to 450hp

Awww right I won’t be near that power so I’d say the rad and fans will work well. I’ll get him to check the condition of the Turbo also
Thanks

It’s a good piece of info that Barry has pointed out…. There is a massive difference in bad intercoolers and good ones, and it’s something 90% of people overlook as a front mount just looks like a front mount. I’m not a fan personally of how smaller Turbos drive on large front mounts so its something I wouldn’t be moving towards unless I absolutely had to and there was no other options

Hey was thinking of giving Murray Motorsport a shout to do same for my V2. Do they supply and map also? And any idea of costs all in? Thanks
Bob comes over and spends a couple of days there, not due again until the summer. They have no rollers, so its mapped on the open roads of the Mournes. They supply the kit, and you pay Bob directly.

€2300 I’ve been quoted for ecu tune by Bradley motorsport. Seems very nice lad. Apr lad in Galway is hard to deal with apparently I dnt know .
