Any VAG experts (Grahmo / Colm?) give an opinion on the 1.4 TSI 140bhp with DSG?
Good / Bad?
What to look out for?

Thanks fellas.

Loads on them fella, waterpumps leak and as supercharger is ran on magnetic pulley causes it to slip, timing chains, turbo's, waste gate rods rattle, pistons crack, burn oil, modified engine i think from 2010 on, as for dsg, can start to become really jerky can be clutches sometimes or fillings in mechatronics, if you want my advice i work for vw dealer stay away nothin but trouble

Thanks for the heads up SDC...

/// anyone else anything to add or does that pretty much sum it up?

I heard they are trouble but never experienced one myself , the concept is cool , twin charged like my old micra but there is so much to go wrong so inevitably it will

Don't mean to HiJack the thread, but maybe SDC would know the answer to this

I have an early '11 Facelift T5 and the EGR valve is acting the maggott, is there a known problem with these and are VW supplying them at a reduced price due to it being a known fault??

Every modern diesel has known egr problems, known injector problems, known DPF problems and loads more to go with them, very much doubt VW would be offering them on the cheap, I'd say they'd be more inclined to put a premium in them for that very reason.

Yea garry most of egr valves and coolers all one u it are giving bother, best way to go about is go i to a dealer get it diagnosed and get them to put in a good will claim but parts wont discount you over the counter, software also related on certain models

Thanks Graham.

I sold the Audi, so was making a list of possible replacements.

Basically need an automatic car that is cheap to run and reasonably comfortable for 150km daily commute and was wondering what the 1.4tsi were like for reliability (rented a couple over the past years when traveling for work and liked driving them).

Good to know they are to be avoided so took them off the list.

Looking at VW, Audi, Skoda 2.0tdi automatic.

Considering Volvos too D3, D4 or D5 even... if Volvo would prefer a V70 D5, but tax would be higher as would consumption, hence kind of focused on the VAG 2.0tdi options.

Did see that 1.9Tdi Vectras and Saabs are going for very little money. They weren't really on my list, but seeing what you can get for 3500-5500 in that might be tempted as the VAG stuff at that money has pretty high mileage.

Basically need something comfortable, automatic, frugal enough (min avg 40mpg, but 45-50mpg would be better) and with a bit of power as long slog through the Wicklow mountains every day and lots of 20mph brigade and not a lot of space to overtake - you know yourself - so a 1 litre 6N 45bhp Polo won't cut it in the power and comfort side of things.

Despite above am open minded on make / model... as long as is comfy and auto as have a bad back and spend an hour in rush hour traffic or more per day... bit of power for the hills and getting past slow ones... and not going to break the bank to run it or maintain it as am not working at the moment and studying.

Suggestions welcome lads...
