I’m sure this topic has been done to death, but I’ve gone through 30 odd pages and can only find a little info.

Going to view the below car tomorrow for the wife.

Any advice on what to look out for when buying a leagacy GT? Things to check when going over the car?

http://www.autotrader.ie/search/Subaru/Legacy/TWIN-TUR/200932194849518/advert?channel=CARS

Anyone ever view this car, any info on it? Any info on the dealer?

Sorry for all the question.

Thanks in advance

nice motor lad u should look at the dars for sale on this site sum real nice clean cars that were realy looked after

I have had a look in the Subaru for sale section and couldn't see any estates 2001/2002's. If there is anyone on the site that has one and is looking to sell, we have cash inhand.

We have been looking for a car for about 2months now, so very eager to buy

The car looks nice mate, make sure to bring a mechanic to help check the car over. Also check if the timing belt has been done, its getting to that millage. That will cost you nearly a grand to get done.

Well screw me sideways, a grand??? At what mileage should it be done?

Signing off for the night.

Any advice on what to look out for please post them up and I will have a read of them before viewing the car in the morning.

With regards to the price, any advice on what I could expect to get the car for?

It will be a cash deal and no trade in.

My internet isn't working so on my fone. Is this car for sale at jap cars up near the airport? If so, be very very careful what your buying. They are cowboys up there. I bought my type r there. Bring a mechanic or preferably somebody very familiar with subaru's. And do not believe a word the sales man tells you. If he says its been serviced, it hasn't. My car was so low on oil when i got it home from japcars you couldn't see any on the dip stick. And the plugs and air filter were shot. As for the timing belt, unless its already been owned by somebody in this country and you've proof the belt has been done id be pretty sure it hasn't. And as the lads said above, your lookin at about 800euro or so. Dont buy in a hurry because there are so many cars out there at the moment for good money.

O on the phone myself!!! I have a 99 legacy estate for sale, was featured in the July issue of mij this year, you can view it in the classified section here, have always taken care of it fully, and alot of the lads on the site will back me up on that. Have a look, gimme a ring if you want also, just after the weekend tho.

As said, don't trust jap cars.

Great car above and well looked after.

Had a look at a few in japparts about 2 years ago and didnt fancy,

When i was buying didnt know anything about sti and got member from here to check for me.

:smokin:

so far as i can see the jap importers bring stnadrrd cars from japan and add 2-3k to the post import price
would suugest either
1. import your own or car from japan (dead easy just takes a few weeks)
2. probably easier to buy on this site (will be alarmed and serviced already, which you wount get from jap cars or the like)

I know you are looking for an estate but if you compare some of the saloon leggy's for sale on the site for a sec. Take rob's there, mapped, seviced, new clutch and full clifford alarm for 6,500 with over €2K's worth of extras that you wont get from the one in japparts. Goldenjohn's has hoards of zero sports gear, dvd, etc, fully serviced. Just bare all these extras in mind when you are bartering a price. If i was buying again, I would have iked to be informed of the following..

1. Cost of service

2. Cost of timing belt change including tensioner and pulleys.

3. Alarm(Clifford) - absolutely necessary or you wont have the car for long (personal experience and there's new posts eery week about more stolen cars. Full clifford is circa 7-800

4. Get someone to look at the car for you before you commit, total buyers market so don't be pressured. Give ciaran from ASD a ring on 0878330772 to see if he can look at it for you. He's the best i've found and knows a lot about the twin turbo setup in these cars.

5. When you drive the car (not them) with your foot on the floor, take note of any delay in the changover at about 4-4,200rpm, if the delay is excessive the there's a problem (you may not notice this but Ciaran definitely would

I would use this to get him to bring his price down to a more resonable level considering the amount of work you will have to put into it.

And just to note, don't let lads scare you by telling you that you have to get the car mapped, its not necessary if you use Maxol E5 either with some NF octane booster or without.

Oh, and they are a brilliant car providing they are looked after. Best of luck whatever you decide

Hi Guys

Had a look at the car today. It’s been in Ireland two years. There was a previous owner.

Looks nice and clean, couldn’t find anything to say it was crashed.

What I was told by sales rep:

Japcars brought it into the country approx 2.5 years ago, approx 30K KMH on the clock.

New owner put up approx 50KMH in 2.5years now has 84K KMH

Apparently car was back ever time with Japcars for servicing.

Apparently has had timing belt done. Checked the oil, correct amount, looks clean to.

Who would be the best guy on here to have a look at it for me? I would be willing to pay him for his time obviously.

Please PM me if you’re up to looking over the car or PM me details of a guy who can do same.

You'd be lucky to get anyone from here to go up to check it with you. It's been a dodgy car since you asked about it first, the minute you said jap cars!! Millage and all that, definately dosn't seem legit for one etc etc

I would seriously take your time and look elsewhere.
The fact that Jap cars are supposed to have serviced it for the last 2 years and done the belt would put me off right away regardless of anything else.
They cant be bothered to service a car when they sell it so why would they bother any other time. Id be surprised if they even know how to service a car.

I’m sensing a lot of hostility towards Japcars, did you have any direct dealings with them? Care to elaborate on your above statement? To help a perspective buyer out.

Cheers

Mij featured legacy in the classified section. Take a look

Hi Nicknack

Thanks for pointing me in your direction.

The car is for my wife and she wants automatic, leather and up the years as much as possible.

Best of luck with the sale

PS, to the other members who have sent me contact details for Ciaran (RSA) and their constructive advice. Cheers

Apologies, I don’t seem to have the function to reply through PM.
