VRT at NCT centres from September

Found this statement on another site:

"The system for registering an imported *** is set to change next month. From September 1 onwards, an imported *** will have to be registered at a designated NCT centre, rather than at a Vehicle Registration Office. This change means those who bring a vehicle into Ireland will have more time to complete the registration process. Once the vehicle has arrived on Irish shores, the owner will have seven days to book an appointment with their designated NCT centre and 30 days to complete the entire registration procedure"

Opinions?

The NCT mechanics will know what engine is in the car and if its turbo or N/A rather than a office worker. Is that the reason ?

I'm guessing so, but I wonder do you have to NCT the car and pass before they complete the VRT process? :dontknow:

I would say so

To be honest, I think its a fairly good idea "IF" the people working in the NCT centres are fully qualified mechanics and not just eejits who are reading a manual!
There are too many cars in this country wrongly declared so someone could save a few quid on VRT prices!!!!
Ya always see them..... Evo 3 for sale. 1.8 on tax book, blah blah blah

Also they can take the condition of the car into account when its being registered.... etc
And sure if ye get NCT and VRT the same day in the same place it makes it handier for everyone!!!

I would wonder is it an attempt by Government to wash their hands of the illegal vrt they are charging people.Where will the money go,as the NCT is run by a private company are they collecting on behalf of the government or instead of the government?Looks like the government has sold off another source of income for Ireland probably for a pittance such as they did with the toll roads and mobile phone licences before. :angry1:
Edit: To include speed cameras soon also

I'd say this will still be happenin,if you can throw a lad in the centre 50 quid to get your bag of shite that is in no way roadworthy nct'd then there'll be no difference in gettin him to put an evo down as a 1.3
