What about this one. Looks clean. Might not cost much to sort the problem it has and you could push the price a bit I'd say.

Could be a good buy. :subaru:
That one there is a clean looking car, i reckon you defo get it for 1500, and sort out the gearbox or diff then, a uk box or diff isnt going to be expensive

Spoke to owner on it yesterday... Yep... it's a Jap car.... bodywork needs some attention but apparently it's mechanically 100%.

I'd rather wait for the the right car... realistically it has to be Irish! Unless swapping UK 5th is an easy mod and I could get a cheap re-map for 95ron! :ponder2:

Yeah... Ken I have to agree with Robbie... Not a fan of a car with such high mileage. I'm only going back to Scooby motoring on the basis I can get myself into a clean, standard car with plenty of life left in it that won't let me down. And TBH... it's too high mileage for me. If something went wrong with it... fair enough I could get it fixed handy... but this is gonna be my daily driver... and I can't afford to be without for any length of time!

you aint gonna get a low miler for 2k, and in fairnness with the year, budget, low mileage and fact of a UK or Irish car a must, i dont think it wll be got
No harm in having all this criteria, but have to be realistic, all the above i cant see coming in the one package
Millage wudnt worry me in slightest, as whos to say the engine hasnt been changed before and this owner seller doesnt know????

Could get a low miler that hasnt been serviced right or has been rebuilt by a fool etc etc
I would judge the car on what its like, not by whats on a clock

Re: WANTED - Classic Turbo Wagon UK/Irish Spec car!

Its not just the engine that takes the mileage, suspension, shocks, bushings all round... All of these i would be worried about having to replace constantly... i know you're not gonna find a very low mileage car for the money but i think 240k kms is extreme considering some of the value that is possible at similar money...

Re: WANTED - Classic Turbo Wagon UK/Irish Spec car!

Sometimes it can be better to get a higher mileage car, as all the bits you have mentioned could have had to be changed already, and although it has more miles say than a car with 100k miles, it may well have more new parts.

I think that car in particular looks clean, and the advert seems to be fairly honest, its a car like that with something wrong which offers great bargaining potential.
If i was going to buy that i would be expecting to get if for a max of 1500, maybe less. even at 1500, we all have bought alloys that cost more in fairness :icon_lol:.

My old 97 irish turbo now has 180k miles, still on original engine and box, and absolutly flying. :subaru:
Has the car 240k miles or kilometers?
I really am a big beleiver in not knocking it untill u have drove it, a car of that age is not likely to have service history, so the low mile ones could well be clocked anyway, i really dont think that mileage tells anything about a car anyways.
Think you have to be realistic, and have a look at what your wanting to spend and what your expecting to get and then be open minded to what pops up.
Ive asked a few guys for Jaime, and one guy he contacted but he was looking big money, and when i mention UK or Irish or Wagon they all seem to be high miles on them, think it goes with the territory.
Hope he gets one soon, or this thread will end up having more posts than Jaimes WRC project

Re: WANTED - Classic Turbo Wagon UK/Irish Spec car!

Ken.. Don't worry... hopefully this thread will come to an end soon!

I agree... That not all high mileage cars are a bad option, in that a lot of major components may have been changed since. The car you posted is WRX Ians as I'm sure you know... he only has a short time, so odds are he's not going to know exactly what's being done on the car prior to his ownership... I could be wrong!

Anyways... I've been a bit more realistic on what i can get for my mullah... and have increased my budget to get the right car. In other words I do have a budget more than 2k... I'm fully aware finding an Irish Wagon with average mileage (100k-120k for a 10 year old car) may take some time but I'm quite happy to hang on a while and see what comes up here. If nothing... then I'll consider the UK or maybe head up North.

I recently enquired about a car 60miles from Holyhead... with a full stamped subaru history and 100k on the clock... all MOT's and for not far off what I'm looking to spend. Owner gave me a bit of a runaround and in the end I decided to leave a UK trip til there are a few cars for me to visit in one trip... and all avenues here are exhausted.

I'm not in a major panic... if something comes by the new year.. Then great!

Re: WANTED - Classic Turbo Wagon UK/Irish Spec car!

I didnt know that blue one was a members car.
Is the vrt much on a Uk one?

Re: WANTED - Classic Turbo Wagon UK/Irish Spec car!

Hey Eric... cheers for being so dilegent at keeping an eye out for me. Karma!

Spoke to guy with classic silver car... It is a Jap car unfortunatley. But well maintened... only down side is body is ropey in spots... accident damage round rear door which was repaired but badly painted... and the front bumper is in need of paint too.

Might be worth looking at though if no Irish cars come up.

Got onto the ROS site during the week when I saw that black bug... as it would be a nice car ... bit more solid and comfortable to a classis. Only prob is the VRT makes it too dear for me... but otherwise I'd have snapped it up.

Re: WANTED - Classic Turbo Wagon UK/Irish Spec car!

I'd ring the VRT place as they always have their cars price to high in light of thecurrent market and see what real price they give you for VRTing it. I'd then ring the lad selling it and use he old VRT pice as a way to push down his price. I'd say thts why he's selling with it still o UK plates.
