weird question ??

Petrolheads
Looking at another scooby was told by the owner that the engine light flickers on the odd time when it goes into boost he said its an over boost function ?? is this a waffle or is it hard to tell ??

id say its bull sh*t man ,never heard of any like that the only thing iv seen is with after market ecu fitted the engine light can be used by the ecu to show engine knock !!

sorry dave im a bit slow :wall: so if i get the car checked as in diagnostic it will tell me ? sorry for questions there car is in cork and im in dublin dont want to waste my time going down there

As Dec said. Knock sensor can be programmed to flash the EML when knock is detected.

hopefully its a faulty sensor and not bottom end ill just have to get it checked out properly as i haven't a clue

Its either bullshit or knock detectioon. Ask him is it mapped and what with? If it is knock detection, it could be set too sensitive and picking up external noise.

spoke to previous owner he said its an over boost function, mapped by JGM he said it happens when you mess with boost controller but if its left alone the engine doesnt flash its coopsters car think he used to be on the on site its his old 2005 silver forester xt still gonna get it looked over .

I'd be questioning why He messing with the boost controller ?

Sounds dodgey car would be mapped for a certain boost level

im trying to get in touch with previous owners i think it was mapped without boost controller then someone added a boost controller without tweaking the map for it its my only guess till i check it out / find out

Jeazus that all sounds like trouble I'd steer clear

im 50/50 weather to go or not dont want to let a nice car go over something simple but it could be more trouble than its worth :dontknow:

all is well the car had a split pipe from turbo to actuator that caused the overboost issue but its been replaced

the full story is the car was mapped for 1.3 bar then its was over boosting 1.5 bar the the previous owner put on a boost controller thinking he could set the boost lower so when boost controller was added car still acted up and it turned out to be cracked pipe from turbo to actuator but the owner now is messing with boost controller so ill be taking it off if i get it.

Get someone that knows what they are at to give that engine the thumbs up before buying . Buying a boost controller before checking and replacing a €2 piece of hose , or even contacting the mapper is just retarded
