What about this exhaust setup?

most of the turbo back systems i seem to be coming across are 3" pipes. I was planning to keep the standard back boxes on it, to keep the noise levels down. If i want to measure the diameter of my cat backs do i measure the pipe coming out of the back box that connects to the Y section? Don't really want to add 2 huge back boxes that will just attract too much unwanted attention! ( im getting old!)

Most downpipes are 3" but taper down to 2.5" where it meets the rest of the exhaust system. Maybe when it sais 3" it just means the downpipe.

if I'm replacing the centre y section too i should be looking for a 2.5" centre section.

Ideally if i could get a 3" down pipe(un-tapered) and a 3" inch center section that tapers down into a 2.5" . Havent found any like that yet! The search continues!

actually just measured on of the spare standard back boxes I have they are actually only 1.5 inch in diameter. Will i have to replace the back boxes too?

totally agree there. Anyway back to downpipes. It seems that the USDM spec Legacy is a 2.5 litre and uses a single scroll turbo compared to the twin-scroll 2.0 L of my JDM spec. So does anyone know any good jap sites(not japanparts or nengun, they have none) that do parts for the Legacy'. A pint to whoever finds me one!!
