what is a fast car ?

i'd say anything with enough torque to glue you to your seat!!

I used to think my civic vti was quick, but then I got the impreza
I was driving the civic the other day and was waiting and waiting - and nothing happened
:subaru:

mines only a ford fiesta and people are scared of it... 148 lbs/foot of torque at last dyno. decat added since! i'd call that quick for a fwd car!! now my 1.6 scooby. was SLOW! 95bhp of pure power!!! hahaha

It's all about your perception of speed. After a blast in an sti a Toyota Celica for example will seem slow. The same goes for having a run in an AMG after an STi and then the sti will seem slow and so on. Have you ever noticed that a few weeks remapping your car you think there's something wrong with it because it doesn't seem as fast somehow. It's amazing hpw quickly you become acostumed to more power. Even F1 drivers get used to 800 bhp. Andy Forrest told me that when his racing Impreza was down on power at one race meet (to around 600 bhp) he thought it felt slow

According to the dictionary fast and quick are basically the same thing. For a 4wd sub 5 is definitely quick but I think for a hot hatch to be quick it has to be sub 6 as there are plenty of them capable of sub 6 second 0- 100 km now. Maybe a more accurate measurement would be 0-100-0 or in-gear acceleration.

Any car that makes you laugh when your insides go "light" with acceleration  and your eyes pop out on springs  when breaking is fast.

have to say i had loads off great times in my 106 rallye and cant think off any other front wheel drive car to beat me in a 0-60. :ponder:

its totally different to the scoob were people know what the scoob is when belong side it but the 106 ya got the civic/glanza boys thinking look at this 106 with its body kit and looking sweet then they would be telling me at the next stop (fook me man whats done to that yoke)

did it in 6.7 secs before i got the inner engine mods done so must check it again when i get it running again.

the torque in her is just unbelievable but even better because the car is so light.

going to get it rolled before i sell her on.

I think :p
Quick Car = 0-60 or whatever
Fast Car = overall speed
Same here.
Me too, in fact I'm reminded of my old Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV in the '70s, and how though that was faster (top speed), I'd rather have had the 1750 GTV version (with a 1.8 engine) which was actually quicker. In real-life driving situations I'd rather have the better 40-60 mph acceleration than a 130mph top speed!

ive come up from a saxo to a b4 and in the begining the power was scary :eek:mg: but im well used to it now. i do notice however when i get back into n/a cars now i find them really slow and have to revert back to my old driving style. ye really have to totaly rethink the way you drive with a b4 cause of the way the turbos are set up. i rarely take it into high revrange on the second turbo cause the first turbo is quick enough for normal driving. however i did get back into the saxo for a quick spin the other day and it did bring a smile to my face so all is not lost

I drove a few tdi 130bhp golfs when I was looking for a "sencible" work car (I was driving a 98 forester turbo for work 600miles per week) :wall:
I couldn't find one that didn't make me want to pull the steering wheel off with frustration, Even a chipped comfort line 130,
I ended up going over to chester with the wifey, then getting a train all the way down to devon (6 hours) and taking the chance that the car worth buying once I got there!
Thankfully she was grand and I got myself a chipped gttdi 150 (200bhp) with loads of mods already done!
Even though she is just over half the power of the power of the scooby, she still feels quick enough (loads of torque) to keep me entertained!
Defo worth the hassle!
Dan

From reading the posts so far bit looks like bhp = fast car (top speed) and torque = quick car (in-gear acceleration).

That would make something like an Impreza Spec C fast and quick, a Civic Type R fast but not quick and a Golf 170 bhp quick but not fast!

get on the back of an r1 yamaha and do the m1 in 20 mins from port tunnel to newry....

Hello Lads,

I had an Irish WRX Wagon for a couple of years from 2001, I always think back on this car with big a smile, as I still remember her as being sooo quick........

I then got a 238Bhp RX-8, and was not impressed at all with regards to speed etc :ponder:

(As a RWD car, it did not feel quick, as you could light up the back wheels / loose traction in no time

When I got my Spec-C, I was blown away after the re-map

But as Frawls said, a few weeks later...... I thought something was wrong..... even though the car was totally fine :D

You will always get used to new power & IMO that's a good thing, as you can really enjoy the speed etc, instead of "holding on for deer life"

If you would c**p yourself every time you put the foot down, you would be in a crash fairly quickly :dunno:

In the S204, I'm back to being afraid again..... Not to mention the Type-R......

Both cars are Very Quick IMO, but totally different

The S204 feels like a N/A car (constant boost, so you do not even feel it boosting) & the Type-R has nothing, until "K-blammo", it rips off your face & you have to go home & change your pants......

I know I will get used to both cars in time, but for the moment, they are great fun...... :subaru:

Cheers,

Michael

Eh there is not a way in this world I would have gotten on the back of that bike

a fast car to me would prob be something that will scare me a little with loss of grip goin through the gears  you'd just know you had power for speed if thats happening
now if i was a passanger in a car  it would be a total different story,a fast car then would prob be anything that moves  :lol: dont like bein in that seat at all

Fast cars i was in a old 911 turbo before late 70,s the car was built i drove it 2 weeks ago 150 plus and more rattles then anything i was in before your waiten for the door to fall off it was that quick and noisey and old.
Or a mk 1 golf with 250 bhp plus thats scary i was in one last year and fuk me it was a beast...

@Mick spec c!
Your type r doesn't stike me as a car that anyone can get used to!

That's an average speed of 180 mph including stopping for the toll! There must have been a brown line down the road all the way up!

I think a fast car is something different to each person....

For me, a fast car is something that makes you laugh uncontrolably through fear and excitement at the same time....

I was in the passenger seat of a 850hp skyline and it did it for me!!

Couldn't stop laughing, even as we were sidways on a skinny road spinning all 4 wheels in third gear doing a colossal speed

All cars seem slow to me after that! Even the 580whp civic I was in at Cali :dunno:

I'll be chasing that rush until I find it again
