my da currently owns a 01 wrx sti jdm. a full tank costs over 50 euro and it lasts about 100miles without any hard driving. most of the time im in 6th gear doing 60kmh. just wondering cud there be somethin at fault with the fuel system cause that mileage is dreadful. would gettin it map sort this out or anythin. any help would be great its costing me and my dad about 50-70 euro a week to run it and wit the new petrol tax coming in yet again :angry1: :angry1: :angry1: :angry1: :angry1: its goin to be even more expensive

Defo something is wrong.. My modified Type-R makes about 150 miles on tank while hard driving, up to 210 miles on "normal" treatment.

And shortgeared Type-Rs are known to be thirsty beasts ;)

This scoob needs to be diagnosed, maybe Lambda sensor is gone ?

i no yeah dave from stituning went over it with the diagnostics and he took it for a spin when we bought it and he said everything was good. wat does the lambda sensor do

checks wether its running rich or lean...in your case way rich..it sits in the exhaust..could be you plugs on the way out..be surprised what a full service can do for fuel economy

cheers i new a service cudn bring it up that much but my da was sure. wat does a lambda sensor do and is it expensive to replace

There is no way in hell a service will reduce the mpg that much, the lambda is the most likely problem IMO ...

Dave ran diagnostics but he would of picked up a faulty sensor so that's why I said plugs..if a plug completely failed it would make the car run extremely rich and with being a cylinder down he would be on the throttle more to make the same progress as usual..probably not going to double his mpg which his car should be currently running but worth checking out as diagnostics would not pick this up.

hadn't seen that dave had run diagnostic dave :icon_redface:

has the car been this way since ya bought it??

If a plug failed completely would it not be misfiring??

no funny gerry :icon_nana:

we will be gettin the car serviced after my exams for college are over so il pop down to dave again and see how things are. yeah the car has been like that since we got it

Lambda sensors can give intermittent faults if i remember right, so its still possible its faulty.

Aye exactly..

I'd say that's more likely lambda giving up! Some might disagree, but I don't see a point of buying overpriced genuine Subaru Lambda Sensor...

I bought mine from here http://www.lambdasensor.com/ Original Bosch for £50... Highly recommended by guys on Scoobynet.
