Don't do it

Not sure if its the same gearbox that they had in the 1.9 litre diesel laguna but if it is then stay well clear. My father had a 1.9 diesel & had 3 clutches & 2 gearboxes fitted to it and he doesn't drive cars hard & didn't have a towbar either. Very weak link according to everything we read online about it at the time :icon_confused:

hahaa, yup, sounds about right...

dont buy one ever ever ever
as said already gearboxes yearly auto or manual
mate of mine looks after a couple of these for people and is always replacing them
all the parts in them have a short shelf life and are exspensive
renaults them self are absolute rubbish
bought the wife a laguna 3 months ago and already am gonna sell it
1 owner low mileage with full service and still absolute rubbish even she says she was better off in the 17 year old toyota camry estate she had before it
im actually gona buy another one or another legacy estate
and the espace is like the sefrane the 2 worst creatures from a bad blood line of french muck
avoid at all costs

Renault electrics give trouble, gear boxes give trouble, suspension and bushes are far too soft and need replacing often... need i say any more, i know one guy that had a 4 year old laguna, left it in to get ready for Nct, 1500 euro worth of work needed to be done... be care full of the JAP are best theory aswell, not definitly correct, Nissans are nearly a full Renault now, with Primera SUFFERING FROM ELECTRICS AND LAGUNA GEARBOX TROUBLE...
Cmax wouldnt be bad, Toyota be good bet, even a Zafaira.. but stay away from the French!!!!

any espace after 04 seems to have most of the problems sorted deal with a few customers with them no problems and actually a lovely drive, older ones were terrible, ever since tulon started building them for reno they have been a lot better

Don't listen to any of them, they are a great car, the only thing I would look out for is if it has a Renault badge. These can be found sometimes on the front and, but not all the time, on the back of the car. If you do find one on this Espace.....................runnnnnnnnnnnnnnn................................don't buy it............................it will break your heart, and your bank balance, no matter how much of a bargain it looks at the time............ruuunnnn.

what do you mean by a renault badge,as far as i can see they all have a renault badge front and rear,

here is the one im looking at and i can have it vrt'd for 10 grand.
it has the timing belt and pump done and has a new starter in it.
the wife really loves these cars due to the space for all the kids.
i know renault have a bad rep for reliability, but are there newer cars as bad?
the wife had a fiat multipla before this and everyone warned us about the fiat's but her car ran for 5 years without any major problems,so is all the bad press about the renaults due to hearsay or fact

He means if you see that badge anywhere run away! Renaults are pieces of scrap

I have worked on many espaces pre 2004 models had a few problems, the post 2004 models are built under licence by tulon a chinese company the electronics and gearbox components are a lot stronger, they have possibly the most comfortable drive of any passanger vehicle, the only cons i can think of is soft electric window motors and rear suspension bushes my need uprating cheap fix,and rocker cover gaskets lose there still nothing major,I cant believe people are recommending the c-max or the s-max there maggot boxes sick savage glazing issues and egr valves, and steppemotor problems,The zafira the aul fuel tank eater low on fuel car shudders cuts out anywhere thanks to the defective carbon canister,

as tommy said give a ford c-max a look. 1.6tdci. we had one here (first ford around the place ) and was a great car with plenty of poke and a mizzer on diesel.

my sister has a s max with 3 years savage motor loads of room, c max is good but boot is tiny very hard to fit buggy in, if i was buying a motor in da morning it would be s max

From what i have been told, Renaults are only getting worse as you come up in year, i know of one dealer who sold loads of older Renaults, and will not touch the newer shape lagunas or meganes, as they are giving so much trouble, stupid things like key cards giving trouble, automatic headlights coming on of there own doing when your in looking at telly, lot of electrical stuff, seems they try to get to advanced too soon, Wasnt there a recall on one of those recent Renault people carriers, where dash had to be removed to replace wiring loom out as far as engine?

I work on european cars everyday and the espace is a good car,I can post more intermittent problems in any of the other cars mentioned more than the espace,I just dont understand where your information is coming from, unless from experience, its all rubbish, dont wanna sound ignorant or anything

Skinny, are you French by any chance?? :ponder:
Your about the only person i know, sorry change that, you ARE the only person i know that recomends a Renault.
I have only ever owned a couple of Renault 19s years and years ago, and they were an alright car..apart from anti roll bar bushes ever month :wall:
So, a friend of the family who has a garage and was a mian dealer at one time, who always loved the older Renaults and sold hundreds of them wont touch them anymore cause there dirt,
Another mate of mine that has a garage, hates the sight of them, doesnt mind older ones but new meganes, Lagunas etc he does not want in his yard
Girl in work with small family had a megane and it nearly broke her, had to trade it back in, it was in main dealers more than she had it
A guy in office in work had a 4 year old Laguna, bought it from new, again she had a regular spot in the Renault workshop, went for a pre nct look over 1500 euro to get her through nct, again, nearly broke him, had to trade it in and buy a new Primera, whos Renault gearbox is giving trouble and needs replacing :wall: And at the current moment in a 5 mile radius i know of 2 Lagunas that are parked in yards, one a diesel and other a petrol, diesel has gearbox trouble, suprise suprise :shock2: petrol one Fuse board went a fire :shock2:.
So no one can tell me that they are a good car, dnt care how comfortable it is for passengers, wnt be comfortable and you walking home.
There were guys out there that said Ladas were good cars aswell once upon a time, your the Renault man now
