what to look for when buying a renault espace

espace is probably the least troublesome renault model.....
all the others have problems more regularly...
lots of extras standard but plenty of other MPVs are ahead of it in my list!!!!

all cars have problems thats the nature of the beast,if there was a thousand renaults rolling through the door i would agree with you,but theres not,Look at the extended warranty list by manufacturer,the vag group are by far the worst,yet people still recommend them without any information,Renault had a bad rep because of gearbox problems and electric
faults,they still have problems but no more so than any other manufacturer.
 
you can knock every car on the road for some problem or another...
still hard to match the japs for realiability!!
 
i have seen year old meganes with the drive shaft seals leaking oil from the gearbox,
i work on kangoos everyday of the week and only today had to change a driveshaft, rear shock, rear engine stabiliser bar
and discovered the gearbox mounting is gone and it only has 33k on it. major problems with keys, gearbox trouble as is the case
with 01/02/03 primeras which share the same gearbox as laguna as Ken said, mate of mine went through 3 of them and lad that lives next
to me did two of them, as for getting parts thats a joke as a few of the main dealers that sold them in Dublin have either closed
or are dealing in another make, about a year ago you could not order a key card as they were unavailable so if you lost yours or it was
not working you had to wait weeks until they became available.
 
The key card is a stupid clumsey thing, look at the size of it, what happens when you sit down and it in your jeans pocket? if battery goes and you havent spare card, dont you have to go in and get ecu recoded or something stupid and expensive anyway?
If the original poster still wants to go see the car, i suppose check for head gasket issues, and definitly electricaly problems, and same as any other car really, but be aware of the highlighted common problem areas with Renault
