What would you do?-nct BS.

B4 soon

Petrolheads
I brought the car for test 3 weeks back and it failed on two visuals-one front tyre badly worn on the inside and number plate size. So went away happy enough as theyre only visuals and only got around to going back today. Before I went back I got 2 new tyres and a new set of plates and away the NCT go and fail the plates again! They are bog standard plates that I bought today from a motor factors. Apparently the digits are too small. Thing is,one of the lads in the motor factors has a DC5 which was in for test this morning with exactly the same plates on it and it passed...but the tester, who also did mine,is his brother. To top it off he didnt as much as lock out the wheel to see the new tyres, just walked past it and glanced at them-they could've easily had the wire out through them on the inside and he wouldn't have known. What would you guys do? I'm absolutely livid over this.

There is a manual on the nct website which should tell you the correct dimensions required for the number plate and you'll be able to check them off against each other. I'll get it for you when I'm at a pc again if you haven't found it in the meantime. Then go back and throw their own manual in their face and just let loose about the fact that you've had to take time off work and wasted petrol getting over and back to them.

Number plate inspection is only a visual inspection...you don't even need an appointment to go back for this so its not gonna cost you anything.

As Robbie says there is a specific dimensions a number plate MUST be...if the motor factors made them up wrong then they will change them for you free of charge. If they are the correct dimension then go back for your free inspection & raise your complaint with the manager on duty.

Not the end of the World I don't think :ponder2:

Its nothing to do with money Brian, its the principal. The fact is i've wasted my day off on these monkeys and they passed another car this morning with exactly the same dimension plates,so why was mine failed.

Despite it being a standardised test its still very subjective.

You could get a tester that overlooks something that another tester will fail it on. Thats the problem when humans are involved.

This really boils down to whether your number plates are genuinely a legal size or not, if not then he's right to fail you...despite another tester allowing the exact same plates past.

Just had a quick read of my last post & it might have come across as slightly flippant...wasn't meant that way Sean

id go back down , pull yer man to one sid e for a quiet word , about how
no1 one : is he taking the piss about letter size
and
no2 2 : you know he passed his bro and if he doesnt give u the cert your goin straight to manager and ringing head office

wasnt ther a big wahoo made a month or three ago about nct backhanders , this is basically same thing .

dont actually go through with threat as that would be bad form to the fella who passed this morning and dragging him into it . a quiet word should be enough for him to see sense imo

NCT :angry1: :angry1:

Tried to fail me a few weeks ago because the tester couldn't find the VIN number. I told him where it was and he said no its not there. I offered to point it out to him but he refused to come outside because it was raining. WIth that I called the manager, pointed to my VIN on the bulk head and got a pass cert. The test is a joke and a money making scam.

Same thing happened to my sister with her Toyota Yaris 2 days ago. Tester couldn't find her VIN number and failed her. She also called manager who "found" the VIN number and passed her.

My problem with her case is the fact that these testers see the same cars day in day out yet on one particular day they can't find a VIN number on a Yaris. Yeah right!

Regarding the original posters problem. I failed on plates a few years ago. Was told the lettering was 5mm too small. Went back with THE EXACT SAME PLATES a week later and was passed.

go back to the motor factors and get them to replace the set with legal plates as that is what they should have sold you
on less they where sold to you as show plates
as for the n.c.t. flutes dont waste your time there a bunch of cnunts
they open day and night so you shouldnt have to take any more time of work
hope this helps

I'm gonna take a pic of the plates tomorrow and post it here so youll all see why I'm so pissed off. And the above revenue and nct documents basically say different things-no mention of letter size at all on revenue site. On another note-a mechanic freind of mine took an 01 astra coupe to nct last week-where he was failed for having no lap belt in the rear. They made him fit one despite the car being a 4 seater. opel say its a 4 seater, the log book says its a 4 seater and yet he had to tolerate that crap from the NCT. Clearly theyre just making up their own rules as they go along.

thats the rules on plates

and for nct appeals
Appealing NCT results

If you are dissatisfied with the test result you may appeal it through the NCTS appeal process. You must appeal within 7 days of the date of the original test. To make an appeal, obtain an Appeals form, from the test centre or from the NCTS Customer Service Department.

Complete all relevant sections of the form, giving details of the reason(s) why you feel you should not have been refused a test certificate. Forward the completed form, to the NCT Customer Service Department at the address below (see 'Where to apply'). You will then be offered another test in the testing centre but you have to pay the full test fee. If your car passes the second test, you fee will be refunded.

if you are in dublin ill do you a set of plates

Below are the plates from the first test-failed on size-fair enough-they are a bit small

Next are the ones from last thursday that also failed-showed these to the tester yesterday in Galway and he said he'd have passed them and he couldn't see anything wrong with them.

These are the plates that it was passed on yesterday-have removed them again as they look like something from a looney tunes cartoon.

I would have belted the fuckers on each side of the head with a plate! Shower of incompetent gombeens. Nothin' but a money racket.

HaHa those last set of plates (which you say you passed with) are NOT regulation plates in terms of size requirements as far as I can see.

Spot on Andy-gap between the rows of numbers is wrong, border is almost missing on one side and blue on EU bit is wrong and yes those are the ones that passed.
