What would you swap your scooby for if you had to! (of the same value)

I know we did this a while ago,
But I have been under pressure from Anna (Wifey who drives the car) to entertain other options,
She has been proper fed up with the hassle we've had over the last year and a half!
I've promised that the forester will defo be sorted, so she'll be reliable and smooth,
If Anna isn't happy with the car by the time she's put back together and tweek mapped (first week of Sept)
Then I have advertise it and buy something else that she is happy to drive! :icon_cry:

So I've decided that if not the forester, the only other Non scooby options are
1. 2003 E39 BMW 5L V8 M5 with breathing mods and remap 450bhp 400lb/ft
2. 2001 B5 Audi RS4 2.7 V6 biturbo with the above mods would be 440bhp 500lb/ft

So wondering what non scoobies would you have?? If you had to swap your car for a car of the same value!
Dan

Hey Dan. why dont you take the fozzie back a step or 2, maybe get it back to around 400/400, Exedy stage1 clutch, standard exhaust manifold etc etc..
I dont know what the personal circumstances are, but the 2 cars you have listed mate are nice but still are High performance, and are really high cost if anything goes wrong.. maybe it would be jumping out of the pot and into the fire mate.
What about a nice 525 diesel or 530 diesel, those 530 when mapped are like 400 ftlbs or something, you have relaibility, style, luxury and good go...

I cant see you selling fozzy to handy, so i think you may have to look at taking her back down a notch man

dan i think you are being totally unrealistic im actually suprized that your wife has put up with it until now,
you were saying a while ago thet money wasnt as flush as it used to be, so imo what you should do is sell the forrester and by the wife a proper family car for the timebeing, until your in a better position financially. the two cars your talking about buying are once again not cheap to run and you know that you will get the modding bug again and pump more money into them, im not telling you what to do but if i was in your position id take a step back and have alook at the bigger picture after all you still have the skyline for fun :653:

I think Subarus only act up if modified to heavily. Everyone on here that has moded their engine in anyway outside of subaru or prodrive spec seems to have had trouble. I'm not saying don't mod your engine but if you do you have to deal with the expence of keeping it right and the fact that it will go wrong some day.

I think the only way to avoid problems with a car in the future and leave it safe and reliable for your wife to drive with your kids is to get it back to standard or to sell it on and buy a standard one or another family car. As I know you love your foresters I'd say stick with them. Yours looks better then any I've seen and in standard form its not to be laughed at engine wise.

You have the skyline for tracking. If you wnat something else buy an Impreza or an RS legacy for the track but keep your wifes family car as just that a family car that you can drive to. Standard engine in your own forester is the way I'd go.

not being smart lads but a 1.6 hdi is the way to go for a family car 156 tax, what is all the power for with the kids on board, money aint there for high tax anyway, just my opinion

If you decide to sell fozzie, you may pull the stopper on it Dan, no point in going down another performance car route, the fozzie is a great comprimise for the family and you, if you really want performance, keep the fozzie, get her back to a more reasonable spec, and stop track daying it,

Sorry lads,
I've given you the wrong impression!
Anna is fed up with the feckin forester breaking down so often over the past 18 months,
I have assured her that I have learned alot of expencive lessons in that time, and I now know how to have the car built properly so as to be reliable and powerful! and Simon (JGM) is very confident he can have her running smoothly and safely for me!
Running costs aren't a big issue as the car does so very little mileage,

It'll almost certainly never happen, because as you know, I feckin love my forester and my wifey loves me, and by the time Ciaran rs/ra puts the Foz back together and sets her up properly, and then Simon does his thing, I am sure she'll be happy to drive her again!

I only mentioned the situation I am in at the moment, because I have had to think of what I might drive if not a scooby and have enjoyed the bit of virtual car shoping!
I thought it would be interesting to hear what cars you guys would choose if you were in a similar position?
I do appreciate all the advice though
Dan

P.S. There are plenty of lads running big power on the road in the UK with out issue! I am running an Exedy organic pink clutch which Ciaran made even lighter with some clever mods, and it's holding up grand,
My car has never, ever broken down because it was on track! It may have shown up on the track, ie. oil spraying everywhere, over heating due to head gasket failure, both of which happened on the road, both where more obvious when on track!

it all depends on what value you put on your own car. I was actually looking at RS4's this week but the 06+ model, no where near the same price(30kish), if i got one of them i would happily leave it standard, thats the sign of a good car, you get in and drive it and think, "wow, thats it perfect car, nothing more needed to be done"! In a year or two when my car is worthless and now money is owed on it, the RS4 should be more affordable!

I think there is a stage when you realise that you should stop throwing money into a car on modifications as its money you will never get back, money that could go towards your next car!

This should keep her happy Dan:

Both cars you listed Dan are known money pits.

The E39 M5, you have Vanos issues, suspension bushings, water pumps the list goes on and all are huge money compared with standard 5 series, it came out in 99 and had comparable power with supercars of the time and so when it goes wrong its big money..I've been doing a lot of research recently on them and you need to be prepared for high running costs.
The RS4? again just do some research on them..standard they have no problems..ones with teh MTM pack and tuned versions are likely to fail in a big way..
As I said to you before in a previous thread..why not buy your self a standard Type r transplant the engine gearbox etc from the foz into, get the jeepster back to standard and then you can mod away with impacting your family life

im not been smart eric i was running just under 500bhp with no issues on a heavily modded subaru so it can be done, but you are right when u start pushing the boundaries u have to expect tings to go wrong or break

there the exact same cars my da is thinking of getting if he ever moves on from hes scooby bug. i think hes going to hold off until the e60 m5 is at a good price he said he wudn mind the new rs6 but you wud be waiting about 20years for the price to come down to an affordable price for them

what about something like this dan more performance than the m5 and rs4 but gives you more room inside for the wife and kids http://www.carzone.ie/search/Audi/RS6/4.2-Twin/201012197383598/advert?channel=CARS

I would go for 350z, but I want to drive a Porsche some day and then aston martin db9. Next car will be impreza anyway :subaru:

No, it was the B5 RS4 that was only made in Avant!
No doubt, that RS6 is soom bus, but very pricey!
You can get an E39 M5 for under 10K
I'd love to go test drive a few of them!
Dan

their pricey alright but wud u not get a huge amount of it if u trade in the forester. wonder what state the m5 would be in for under 10k if you could get a good one then id defo go for it one of my dream cars  only off putting thing about them is the horrible tax
