What ye lads think of this

Sunday Drivers
My brother just sold a 01 wrx to a guy . The car was running perfect. Taxed, nct'd , serviced etc ... When the buyer came to see it he spent an hour going over it an took it for a good long test drive an gave it the beans an all that an was more than happy with it.. So handed over the cash , logbook signed . An driver went on his way . My brother gets a call 4 hours later saying the car had broke down an was stuck on side of road near the new drivers home . My brother has posted logbook away an all an banked the money .. Just wondering where he stands in this whole scenario of a private car sale ? The guy has hinted he wants his money back an to return the car . So if he did my brother would have to take back a now broken down car , with a possibly large repair bill from this guy . I've told him not to do anything or give back any money as in private sales it sold as seen . According to the guy he sold it to , it's after throwing a rod or bearing or something . The car was perfect when my brother had it an the buyer started it from cold, heard no knocking an gave it a good long test drive an drove it 4 hours down the country before this happened . What ye think ?

Just tell him its sold as seen and you were not to know it was going to break down. For all you know he drove the absolute bollox out it and thats the reason it broke down. Was it nct'd? What mileage ?

I wouldnt do a single thing... As you said, he drove it for long time and from gold.... there is no way u can blame yourselfs

If you and your brother knew the story of the car you can be calm and relaxed - you did nothing wrong. It might be just a baaad coincidence or he just killed it with stupid driving

7 months nct left an 88k miles on her . Serviced very regulary and very well kept . The buyer even stated he had driven a few previously an my brothers one was the best of the bunch . He said he was doing 150km/h when it happened ... I think he may have been ragging her a bit too much or missed a gear or something . But I take it that it's his problem now ????

As far as I know, it's his problem the moment you have money in your hand and he drove of...

150km/h... on a just now bought car? Seriously? I would check car before I push it hard... Trust, but check (Old Russian saying)

MY brother feels like crap over all this an now is thinking of helping the guy with the repair bill ?? Ya ur right notorious .. He didn't do a thing wrong. The buyer inspected the car for at least an hour an even at first didn't even want to test drive the car as he said he was happy but my brother insisted on him test driving it . During which the buyer brought her up to 6000 plus rpm !!! I think it's a case of solid bad luck here

Well, I understand your brother, I would feel some sort of guilt (?) too...

What he can do, if he is willing to, maybe advise where to fix it, where to buy better/cheaper parts and etc... But not splitting the bill or anything like that.

You can empathy to some level, but not with money...

I told him offer him in the region of 300-400 an leave it at that . He already took 150 off the asking price when selling the car to the guy an had just below a full tank of petrol left in it for him . I actually think he's been too generous but that's just me an my opinion

Buyer blew the bollox out of it and is just chancing his luck trying to get something back, send him packing.

If he admitted to it going bang at 150km/h you can almost be certain he was doing more!! His tough sh*t for driving it like he stole it instead of paid for it. It's a hard learned lesson for him.

Would a rod or a bearing just go without warning in a wrx ? I mean there wasn't so much as a rattle out of it when my bro had her . Although he rarely let her over the 60mph mark . I know this as he has 2 young kids an a very nervous passenger in his missus lol

Give em nothin back!

If you bought it and 5 mins up the road it sh*t itself you'd get nothin back so 4 hrs later is into the fook off with yourself land!

That's a serious stroke of luck that your brother sold his wrx which blew the engine within a few hours and then you sell your B4 at the same time which also blows the engine within a few hours. Good timing or there could've been big repair bills in the family :eek7:
