Wheels for 05 2.0GTSpecB

theSpecifier

Sunday Drivers
Hi y'all. i have 4 proper wheels 2no 225/45 R18 and 2 215/45 R18. Should the wider wheels be on the front or the rear? and what is the recommended tyre for a performance subaru? I heard the Conti Sport 3 is good, but they are not going into the mould in the UK until May this year.

front and rears should be the same as far as i know , so either 4 of 225 or 4 of 215 , its bad for the diff apparently

Running Goodyear asym at the moment - find them really good but Continentals have a slight edge. They too were not available at the time

Dont know why there are 2x 215's and 2x225's, but thats the way it came. their factory fitted alloys.
think that i'll put the 225's at the back, it might lighten the steering slightly.

re the tyres, i'll have a look at the Hankooks and the Goodyears. Talking to a few suppliers, it seems that the cheaper the tyre, the less pure rubber you get (more plastic ingredients) but the longer the tyre lasts but you compromise on grip. That said, even the cheap tyres have to meet and pass EU standards, so they can't be really sh*t.

factory fitted alloys they may be but it probably means that someone cheaped out on new tyres at some stage and bought 2 215's instead

Goodyears are not cheap tyres and Hankook are coming fitted on most new Audi's. What were they recommending to you so? having different size tyres on the car will do nothing for handling apart from making it worse. best to just have a 4 the same on an AWD car

thanks for that guys. i'll have to get down and really look at the wheels to see if theres a size shown somewhere on the alloy. its strange that they're 2 different sizes.

Size will be stamped on the back of the spokes

I'd expect they're the same size and whoever bought 2 new ones never checked to see what the other tyres on the car already were :hammerhead:
