Where to get a middle section exhaust for my impreza turbo?

That's not true for Classic Impreza turbo's - the Euro spec cars have a cat in the mid section too - I used to use my stock mid section (with cat) for the emissions test over in Switzerland (passes fine - you just need to get it nice and warm first!). Japanese imports do not (and the spare mid I have hanging in my garage is the last part of the PPP I initially fitted to my car when I bought it - they provided a JDM decat centre to replace the stock Euro catted one).

I did have to go and check though to make sure I wasn't mistaken (getting old!) - and interesting to note that in 2005ish my car was ~380HP with a full decat, and 350 with a stock catted centre! I had forgotten how restrictive these things are...even when they are further away from the turbo!

Hiya Richard - keep an eye on Donedeal for the mid section, they crop up there and some of the breakers would be worth a call. I had the rotten section in mine replaced by an exhaust fabricator in the end.

I'd well believe 30bhp would be lost when running a standard mid section when running high boost - a bit like sprint running and breathing through a straw :D

oh and +1 for the Euro cars having a cat in the centre section - the above post saying otherwise is incorrect.

There is no cat in the middle section on UK/Euro classics as Dave has already said its a resonator, when I had my classic it passed the test twice with just the downpipe and 3" straight through blitz nur spec r.

JDM cars have the same oval shape where the cat is in a Euro car, but a straight through pipe is welded in instead of a cat (I'll take a piccuie of that later when I get a chance).

The Euro centre cat is enough to pass a Swiss emissions test, I assume an Irish one too. You just need to ensure it is warm before it is tested. However, a downpipe cat is the best way to pass emissions tests.

I have a very standard UK Car and the centre section is defo the original and it has a cat in it. I know because I've had an exhaust specialist take it off to see how he could repair it. I've also got a spare centre section and the honeycomb cat is plain to see. And FWIW the Haynes enthusiast guide also says the euro has a middle cat section ....

555-scooby perhaps yours was aftermarket?
