@ SC86: No worries mate. As I said this was my personal experience and opinion from using both methods with two different traders. I couldn’t recommend Nick enough from the results and after sales support. Nick has the ability to explain all aspects of the mapping. He tells it exactly how it is with no waffle. Just remember there is a risk of mechanical failure during the process and even more so with our older cars. I don’t think there is anyone here who doesn’t cross their fingers and toes when she’s on the rollers. Hope all goes well for your and remember your baby is in good hands with Dr. Nick.
SC86’s post was a question about personal opinion of where is the best place you think is to get your car mapped. This was my honest opinion. I don’t want to hijack SC86’s thread but I feel I have to respond to Dave’s reply as there are some issues there. This is my one and only response as I don’t want to take this thread any further off topic. Please remember my responses are my opinion as are Dave’s. After all isn’t this the idea of a forum in the first place.
Dave,
“HI DAVE. YOU HAVE NOT TRIED BOTH METHODS AS SUCH AS ONE READING TO ANOTHER WAS NOT CARRIED OUT ON SAME MACHINE. ONE WAS A ROLLING ROAD AND OTHER WAS A WINDSCREEN WINDSCREEN MOUNTED G-TECH METER. AND ALSO MOST IMPORTANT WAS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT ENGINE SPEC”
After the car is tested on a rolling road who wouldn’t put the Gmeter in it to see how accurate the Gmeter is vs rolling road. The exact same Gmeter has been proven to give the same results (within 1 or 2 hp and 3 to 4 ftlb of Nicks Dyno). Fact not opinion. As for the engine spec I’ll address that later.
SIMTEKS CAN SOMETIMES HAVE COLD START ISSUES. AFTERALL ITS A MOTORSPORT ECU NOT WORKIN OF A MAF FOR THE ROAD
“The SimTek range has been designed with one underlying principle ….To have the manners and driveability you expect from the OEM ECU,
combined with the performance and features you expect from a motorsport ECU”
I have absolutely no cold start issues now. Fact not opinion.
AND YOU SAY HAD NO POWER DIFFERENCES BETWEEN 1.1 BAR AND 1.45 BAR. AS YOU SAY THIS WAS MEASURED ON A WINDSCREEN MOUNTED METER BUT TO SAY IT RECORDED NO DIFFERANCE BETWEEN BOOST LEVELS SUCH AS ABOVE IS NOT EXACTLY CREDITABLE
In fairness Dave that’s a bullshit statement. Were you there? Now that is a direct slight on my character. Didn’t make sense to me either which is why I tried it in another car to see if the thing was faulty. No it was not. It detected the 2 boost settings no problem in a different car. Maybe this is not creditable to you because you do not map cars as nor do I. Let’s not get carried away here Dave.
PEOPLE GET MAPPED MAPPED WEATHER ON ROAD OR DYNO AND DONT RECORD A TURBO FAILURE AND ON TOP OF THAT I HAD TALKED TO YOU ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER MAPPING ABOUT YOUR FAILED LAMBDA AND NO MENTION OF TURBO FAILURE. I DONT SEE HOW NOT TELLING THINGS CORRECTLY IS BENIFICIAL TO ANYONE
Now that’s the second direct slight on my character. Are you honestly saying you have no memory of me telling you the turbo now sounded like a supercharger pretty much immediately after it went? As in that day? You don’t remember offering me a VF43 from a jap import sti forester with only a few thousand km’s on it for 400euro? Ringing any bells yet? 16-10-09 ring any bells? Very disappointed in a respected trader here posting blatant untruths. That’s serious stuff Dave. I even had another club member there at the time I told you. Had you read my post properly I put it down to the turbo being 10 years old and 53k on it. Not either mapping technique.
THIS IS WHERE ITS STARTS TO GET SILLY. YOUR COMPARISION TOTALLY GOES OUT THE WINDOW. WAS HEADS SKIMMED CHANGING HEAD CC VOLUME. THE PISTONS USED ARE COSWORTH MEANING PISTON DISH VOLUME FOR A 99+ CAR. WAT SIZE HEAD GASKET USED? A COSWORTH? WELL BIGGEST IS A 1.1 OR A 0.78MM AND FACTORY V4 IS 1.47MM. SO ALL THATS MEANS A TOTALLY TOTALLY DIFFERENT COMPRESSION RATIO. AND WITH ALL THE EXPLAINED AND RUNNING ON FULLY FORGED ENGINE INCL WITH CAT, WOULD HAVE EXPECTED BOOST IN AREA 1.45BAR WITH POWER 295-305 and with torque at 232lb/ft on road map i think that is very questionable.
Heads were not skimmed. Yes gasket used was 1.1mm Cosworth. Not that much different ratio but yes indeed it would be slightly. Again you did not read my post correctly. No power increase above 1.3bar because of exhaust restriction. Fact from Nick on a Dyno. Where is 1.45 bar coming from? Again you have just demonstrated that you don’t map cars. You can expect what you like but fact is 1.45 bar is .15bar wasted cos your man would not have known this because he doesn’t have a dyno. Thank you for just demonstrating my whole point. Guess work example at it’s finest. Now that is very questionable indeed....
SO ALL IN ALL YOUR OPINION IS DYNO MAPPED AND TWEEKED ON ROAD. SURELY THAT EQUALS ? MAPPED ON DYNO FOR A WHILE AND FINISHED ON THE ROAD. THE END RESULT EQUALING ROAD MAPPED ANYWAY. THEREFORE WHY WASTE ALL THE TIME ON ROLLERS TO GO OUT ON ROAD ANYWAY. YOUR COMPARRISION RESULTS ARE TOTALLY IRRELIVENT AS NOT LIKE FOR LIKE
That equals mapped on a dyno and tweeked on the road. Tweeked on the road not mapped. I don’t think Nick would be too happy to hear he now road maps car’s with his 60k euro (i think) rolling road set up. And as above you have just made a perfect example of why a dyno is so important.
All in all Dave you are biased because your business involves road mapping. I completely understand that, and you opinion is just that. I went out of my way in my original post not to mention who road mapped my car because this your business. As I said different strokes for different folks. Slighting peoples character to make your point is not cool. Telling blatant porkys to aid that is really really not cool...
