Which diesel car?

Petrolheads
Still looking for an everyday car, and as usual there is nothing good value at the moment which is typicall when you have the money in your pocket :icon_rolleyes:

What is a 99 astra 1.7 diesel like?

I never heard anything good about astra's lots of electrical probs.... but i stand to be corrected!

Friend of mine used to work as a mechanic in Opel and when I asked him he said '' stay away ''

I had an 1998 Astra 1.7 Diesel for a few weeks before I crashed it lol. It was a great car, savage on juice. I got to Carlow and back on a fiver juice!

I bought it from a lad in work who had it from new, the car had 170k miles on it when I got it and was still going strong until the incident lol.

Steve.

friends of mine have passat's and audi's they never had any problems with them..

What Price range you looking in?

Thanks steve
Thats what I'm looking for nice and cheap to run, no performance required with this car . . . .

Not going to spend over 3K

I was looking at an advert for one advertised as 1K too, tax & test and it looks clean too.

Yea driven plenty of VW tdi in my time, good cars too.

or Maybe something along the lines of the 1.5dci engine that renault and nissan use ,

Brother bought a kangoo 1.5 dci van and although its nothing fantastic to drive its costing feck all to run , doin about 500 miles every weekend to €30 approx

Now we are talking Tommy, I have been driving the girlfriends sis reno clio, not a bad car for normal driving just a pain on petrol. Had my mums jetta tdi for a few days too and i dont think it uses diesel :dontknow:

If your lookin at spending about 3k, have a look for a 1.9tdi 130pd Seat Ibiza.
They are a golf TDi in a different shell (same engine and running gear etc.)
I had 1 from new and kept it for 6 years, regret leavin it go........

buy 1 in the north for about 2-2.5k stg and vrt when I swapped mine over was only about 650 euro....

Used to think the same about the 140 brake transporter i had last , would fill it once a week and do best part of 1000 miles every week with boot to the headlamp and a ton of gear in the back of it , think hammie might be on the right track with the ibiza tho , bit of fun when ya want it ,

mine was a 03 and I let it go for about 4000 last year aswell!!!!!
Would buy it back tomorrow if i had the cash

i'd go for the ibiza
as for them clios, ya might as well be putting petrol in the impreza as one of dem

I used to have a 03 clio and it was very light on juice nippy enough as well

I was gettin roughly 500 mile out of a tankof deisel on the Ibiza....
Id say if you got the right chip for it ya would easily have it up to about 170/180 bhp awsell

truely was a great car to drive....
quick, economical and fairly pretty to look at!!!!

had the 1.9Tdi in the Beetle,, great little motor.. i really loved that car 99% because of the motor. 1.9 VW Tdi
