Who best to Remap 97 type R after fitting Turbo back exhaust with decat

Twincam.22

Sunday Drivers
Hi there, I've put a 3" turbo back exhaust with decat on my stock 97 STI type R.
I'm aware of the potential issues with boost creep now there no cat, i also dont think the car was ever mapped for irish fuel even tho has ran grand on it.

So can the ECU be remapped or is a piggy back unit needed? Whos best to do it?
Anyone ever use Kamil Kubica Mapping?

Thanks..

AP Performance best message him trough Instagram does an excellent job

Link ecu best way to go 97 standard ecu can't be mapped unless piggy back but that's older tech these days

As above, Aonghus is the only man for the job.
Pity, there was a discount for Link ECU back on black Friday. Would make a difference, would transform the car though

Not cheap but if Youre keeping the car its the way to go especially if youre adding more bits down the line they are a great system

Thanks lads i messaged AP performance on Instagram waiting on his reply...

I'm not too well up on this but if over boost is a risk now then is a stupid question to use a boost controller as an easy fix instead of going down the route of ECU changes etc?

Boost controller is a band aid tbh.
If the ECU ever picked up something,
Detonation etc where it would have to pull boost to Actuator pressure to protect the engine, your manual boost controller will over ride that and you'll keep hitting full boost.. Causing unknown damage.
Temp fix... I dono.. Maybe.. Someone else along here will say a good educated answer... But I wouldn't be a fan tbh.
Might do until you get mapped really

Been pondering on this for a while now lads, so a Link ECU fitted and mapped with all bits and bobs needed will cost me €2100.

Now for my car I'm not looking for much bar running the exhaust system I have, full 3" back from turbo with decat downpipe and having it run on Irish Fuel safely. That's it. Not going for anything else. I can't bring meself to justify spending that money. There has to be other simpler options available even if it is older technology standalone or piggy back type ECU's that'll do the job I need??

Looking for some guidance on what can be done before having long chat with myself to fork out 2.1K!!

BTW (I have a standard exhaust so NCT not an issue for me)

You get what you pay for man at the end of the day ,the car will be safer and run smoother , improved drivability, fuel economy etc

If you want to take your chances and just run it on booster all the time that’s a cheap option but no way to control the boost creep at high rpm because of the decat

Emanage blue won’t do it correctly whatsoever as you can only add fuel and not take it away and nobody maps them anymore as far as I can see, ancient tech

Here’s another option an esl daughter board, still have to get the board installed onto the existing ecu send ecu away , mapped etc

And just so your aware a boost controller will not fix a mechanical issue as in wastegate flow issue with a decat fitted ,have been through it all before, only way to do it it modify the waste gate port inside the exhaust housing on the turbo or map around it with fueling and pulling ignition timing at the top ,
Boost controller will not reduce boost creep once it starts at higher rpm

Ah that e manage is for the twincam I got aswell

I certainly no expert on this appreciate the comments

I had one on an old Nissan I had about 20 years ago , ended up taking it out and fitting a Nistune in the end

Up to yourself what you want to do but it’s all money ,
You could leave the cat on it throw a bit of booster in the tank and drive on

Used ESL (enduring solutions) daughter board on v4 type r. Great bit of kit for the price but old tec now. AP used to supply and fit them but don't know if he does now. About 400 to 500 euro and can.go mafless from memory.👍

ESL likely the best route if you don't want to go standalone and keep factory ECU which is handy for trouble code checking if you get any issues
