Window motor !!!!?
Little help/advice please , my drivers window just gave up on me, went down but when I flick the switch to put it up I can hear a wirling nosie but no movement . I called the stealers and they quoted me 400euros to fit a new one !!!? But how can I be sure it's not just some thing come lose? 400 sounds like a lot just to fix my electric window

Re: Window motor

1st thing to check is fuse. The fuse box is under the steering and should show little metalic crack across it

2nd is to check the wiring around the fuseboard...turn car on and fiddle with wire a little whilst pressing window button up

(dont touch where the wire inserts into the fuse box)!!!

3rd take off the doorcard and look for any wiring displaced or whether the rod coming from the motor ir loose or worn

4th get one of the electircal boys on here to have a look, most of the lads would give you a dig out.

The above is 1st few things id do!!

Re: Window motor

it must be the window reg thats broken!!!
not sure if they operate on cables or with a toothed cog but the whirling noise must be the motor spinning!!!
get one in a breakers lad...400 euro is outrageous pricing!!
:angry1: :angry1:

Re: Window motor

Done all of the above wireing is fine fuse is ok , and it's on a toothed cog . Have the window jamed shut at the mo but it's gonna crack me up if I have to drive around like that for a month and then pony up 400 euros to fix it :'(

Re: Window motor

I had a look can't work out the prob tho . It works of a toothed cog I can here the motor working but windows not moving wiring seems fine and there are no blowen fuses!!!!? I have found a little plastic strip/clip at the bottom of the door frame but don't have a clue were it's from

Re: Window motor

MIne decided to die as well..I thought it was a fuse but all windows are on the same fuse yeah? I have no sound at all must be the motor?

Re: Window motor

Post up a pic if u can!!

Never seen forrester window motor and though they wer all the same but maybe not!!

Thought most of the newer cars out there had seperate fuses and not just the one for all windows!!??? Could be wrong now

dave,
you need to probe for power at the motor coz the wiring runs through the rubber pipe at the door hinge and could have snagged the wire!!!
just to be sure!!!

usually the tooth right at the motor cog will break and the motor will just spin all day!!!
not sure if subarus are the same as other cars but some regs are held to the window with plastic clips...others are pinched using bolts!!!

:dontknow: :dontknow:

Re: Window motor

If you can hear the motor working then its odviously just not catching the window for some reason......
If the motor aint knackered it might be worth stripping the whole lot down and taking a few pics. The plastic things you found are likely the clips the motor uses to lift / drop the window. sounds like if you where to replace this plastic clip your problems would be sorted....

HOWEVER
I dont know without having looked at it and i could be wrong

sound will look at that

Re: Window motor

@ coopster, as Mark said above it defo sounds like a a window regulator problem. If you can hear the motor turning. €400 is mad money, get on to a few breakers and see what they want for a drivers door reg.

@ Dagnut, check for power and earth at the switch and at the motor, could be either at fault.

Re: Window motor

@ coopster defo not power issue thats obvious if you can hear motor turning its either clip or that could be tooth you found either one will do it

@ Dagnut yours could be power ill check it for you if you want 0872499742

Re: Window motor

ok it defo the motor gone the internals of it are shot motor just spins around and no movement in the cog.

now to find and order a new one - there is no way in hell im paying the stealers €270 for a new motor

Re: Window motor

if you can hear the motor spinning....then its not the motor thats fooked mate!!!
its the regulator!!!
:ponder2: :ponder2:

I think the cog he's talking about mark is the cog on the armature of the motor but i could be wrong :dontknow:

The motor can be recon'd by anyone that does alternators or DC generators

*EDIT*

Just thought about it, It probably doesn't need to be recon'd as the motor is still turning but the piece at the end is fubar

Re: Window motor

yer sorry its the little cog on the motor its self thats not moving and it was full of rusty water :angry1:
