Winter Tyres for the legacy

I'm looking into the possibility of getting a spare set of cheap cheels for the legacy and getting some winter tyres for the snow/ice.

Currently running 215/45/17 Bridgestone Potenzas, but wondering what people suggest I should get for winter tyres? Stick with same size or for winter maybe get 16" rims with a higher profile? Also, where to look for wheels? Dont want to spend too much on wheels as they'd only be on for the odd month here & there when needed.

Thanks.

get some proper all-weather ones like nokian wr g2 or vredestein quatrac 3- they would be best suited for irish weather- very capable on snow/slush etc. (would be better than budget winter), but also very good on wet and dry- can be kept down through spring/summer...size wise you cn stay with this stock size unless you really want to make it more pot hole proof

only reason I was thinking of going for the higher profile was for the comfort in the snow and the bumpy icy patches that shake the bejaysus out of the car

makes perfect sense. 215-205/50-55/16 would do and might be easier to find if you can get cheap wheels. The thing is that prices went up big time since the cold started. Another issue is to stick with the choice of oem tyre sizes and subaru oem made wheels- insurance will have an easy walk away if you do not should anything happened.

good point Milo, my sis had a nightmare after her young fella totalled his car last year as they claimed they werent oem wheels/tyres. Turns out they were, just happened to be fitted to the car before it left the showroom. Just not standard Fiesta rims, but Fiesta upgrade rims

insurance companies got very strickt about it. what i mean is that whatever one does to the car beyond oem specs, for the model, and does not inform them they may void the insurance on the basis of "non-disclosure"...so has to be be stock or frank
