Hi folks

My name is ed , from Meath

Currently I am driving a 07 bmw coupe m sport which i ll be selling shortly for a rearrangement of motors in the drive with herself going down the comfort ecomonical diesel route and myself the uneconomical but smiling road
It would be a daily driver for me and i have a 60 mile round trip for work.
What I want to find is a blob wrx or sti in blue or black depending on how those of you on here have found either model over the years
any help and stories of experience would be appreciated
also , as i live out the country a bit, have any had experiences of attracting unwanted attention in the form of car thieves etc ?

Regards

ed

Welcome along

First of all, make sure you can get insurance on one, it doesn't matter if its a wrx or Sti , both will be the same to insure,
Secondly that's a lots of miles to be doing every week, 300 miles is what you will get to a full tank of juice taken it easy, 80€ in the bin straight away, if you can afford an extra 50€ for the weekend blast it will be the best money you can spend.

IMO go for the Sti as it has greater tuning potential as most lads will say there going to keep them standard but never do or can't do!

A Newage sti would be what I'd choose in your position, your budget will dictate the year.

Welcome ed!
I had in my posession for 12 months a 2005 uk sti! I sold it before christmas as i was offered. Brilliant money for it its now i realise it was a priceless to me! Best of luck in your search get yourself a good one id hint towards black  and dont make the same mistake i did!

Hi Ed. Black is a pig to keep clean IMO. A WRX would be a bit easier on your pocket and 85.7% of the fun if you can live with that. You will probably always wish you had a STi though. Good luck.

welcome ed to the club and subaru's,

i commute nearly everyday in 06 blob eye sti, roughly 60 miles a day, mixed roads, sh1t clare roads and motorway miles and have never had any issues with it or another subaru ive owned, just be prepared for big fuel bill if daily driver, about 100 euro a week for me give or take, i get at best 400 kms to tank and as little as 340 kms if driven hard, i have found them as reliable as anything out there if serviced properly and great fun and always cheers me up if i had sh1t day at work, anyway enjoy d search, i'd b recommending sti all the way :stismiley

Thanks folks

I have driven classic sti's and classic wrx , and also a bug wrx , never any of the blobs. Fuel wise i m able to suffer it , the msport would nt exactly be a miser either.
I ve read some of the threads that deal with insurance on here and as i m 32 with full ncb for 14 years i d hope that its not too much of a jump.

i ve noticed alot of the forsale adds have , engine rebuilt at x y or z miles, is that territory with high millage or bouncing the limiter feet and poor maintenance ?
Ideally a blob is what i want , as personal preference I just see it as a great looking aggressive car, more so the sti, and given the years since their first introduction, are aging very well

Welcome lad. What's your budget. A mint blob sti is still making top money.

how long is a piece of string ? answer ... short lol ...
all car dependent really , wrx vs sti , condition of the car itself. and what it would need would determine my budget within a certain figure.
would nt be against getting a wrx and from there sourcing sti add on s for the visual appeal
as you said, sti's are making good money at the moment .... and from what i ve noticed seems to be the same across the board for a lot of high perf motors this year eg. m3s evos and the like ..

but the right sti , or a wrx that someone has cared for over the years ( rare as they are ) is the goal,
do many go across the pond ?

how is the market for sourcing sti bumpers spoilers suspension etc and pricing of those parts ?
a good clean car without paying over the odds

thanks
