I was informed today from the powers that be to be very careful of fuel in these areas.

They have fitted 30 engines in the last few months due to dodgy fuel in these areas.
Non franchise stations are using kerosine to stretch the fuel in their tanks and make it last longer.

Only small petrol engines in the range I work on are affected(most on here know who/what I work for)

So basically only buy fuel in main franchised petrol stations in the area.
Other brands have had trouble too not just he ones I work on!

No idea if this will effect a Subaru engine, can't be good though!

Yup had a very intresting chat with customs about that very subject last night not only a midlands / border problem bad quality laundered fuel is making it's way up to dublin into branded stations too been described to me as a epidemic

Not good news at all

Jesus... Thats crazy.. I've noticed recently apple green have added ethanol to their fuel like maxol. Any ideas on octane ratings

Is there any easy way of spotting dodgy fuel, like a different colour?

Nope been told they have yet to detect it in esso & texico stations so far

It's a joke,i was in with martin tracey in westward and he was showing me 4 pistons from i think he said a 10 reg 1.4 ptl golf that had kerosene mixed with the petrol the outcome was the rings had literally seized to the pistons engine fooked cos of it,he said as graham said to be careful where you buy your petrol from only buy from the same place all the time and from franchised stations

Is there any way to prove this for insurance purposes and whats being done to stations that are doing this?

@ eli how can you prove it i don't know :dontknow: but he was telling me a lot of garages Know it's a fuel issue so some won't stand by it,but having seeing the pistons i'd be worried as to what sort of fuel you're buying anywhere

Say you fill up, few days later car goes bang, have receipt to prove fuel was bought in garage, get it tested and its faulty fuel, could be proved, surely they cant get away with washed fuel, sale of goods act and all that bolox..

Easy fix for this is start dipping the stations not the cars driving down the road and shut them down that lad in mount Brown was shut down for months

I agree, dip the stations and shut them down, a 2 week blitz would see loads of stations dipped and word would soon spread, can't be blowing lads engines with this shite and getting away with it!

Agree not a bad idea but there's no where near enough Customs for that kind of operation plus targeting huge businesses oil imported with that kind of disruption to bussiness / damage to customer base would be massively difficult to implement in the real world & would require direct edivance of it systematically occurring in the one petrol station/chain

Let's just say the background work is on going

That place im mount brown was watched for ages before they moved in and closed it down should be done within days rather than months.

could have been mistaken but is there a garage in ballsbridge selling for 149ish. Little small place on way into town just after office block with copper outside. Think its Israel/Palestine press office or something
Must have a proper look next time up thst way, only noticed as about 10 cars waiting to get in and only 2 pumps

There's a place in portlaoise that gone done twice for dodgy fuel and it's still up and running, the penalties must not be good enough imo....

Think that's one of them great gas stations now Carlo . Used to be another one just past Harold X . Apple now . Got diesel there a few times when stuck . Seemed okay for diesel anyway

We have the same problem in main dealer i work in, SIMI and customs and excise are working strongly together to sort the problem, the mixed fuel is leaving residue in cylinder bore thus causing the piston rings to stick, we have 3 cars with all intermittent misfires, I used a endascope(small camera) today to asses the damage and it wasnt nice what i seen so lads be careful
