WRX engine into STi

Well me mate offered me his WRX Impreza for 800 (Entire car, with a bit of front end damage)
I know for a fact the engine is sound due to the fact I had driven it meself :)

So could I put the WRX engine into my STi, and just use my original ECU and running gear and still keep the same power?? Or are the engines different??

T hats what I'm saying the ECU from your STI won't be compatible with the block from the WRX.
The compression ratios will be different and the A?F ratios would be different...the timing would be different
You could get your STI ecu mapped..what year is it?

First off Sti and Wrx heads are different, differeent cams and Buckets etc etc. And same goes for the blocks, different internals. also version to version are different.
What year is your STI and what year is the WRX

Actually not so... All hydrolic lifters....

The sti head differences of worthwhile note was from v3 onwards...

As with internals of v1/2 they are exactly the same..

So will work perfectly no problem and retain your own wrx or sti ecu..

Really won't make enough difference if car standard on that early of a car. Well providing no mods..

So in thoery I could actually run the WRX engine without failure due to the STi ECU overboosting it whatever??

Assuming yours is v2 you needs to address the overboosting issue..

It wasn't the ecu... it would be external mods..

Bought it off me brother, who's a fully qualified mechanic.
He said it was in perfect nick, never missed a beat, so I put all me trust into it.

Never checked it for oil, and it had an oil leak....
Low oil plus planting the foot ended up in a big eng going :(

Well as above yes going from v3/4 heads to v1/2 will loose you power/torque. recommend build wat you have...
