WRX for occasional track use ? .

Would a 02 WRX be up to a few track days without any mods or would I be asking for trouble. I don't intend breaking any lap records with it, only to extract some fun from it and wonder would it be up to the job ?.

I would go for a Honda for trakdays, cheap as chips, parts are plentyfull and relatively cheap and you could do alot of work on a honda yourself compared to a subaru.

I probably would have a Honda in mind aswell tbh, if you go to an open track day thats probably what 90% will be using, so its good to get some racing going on.. on another note, it will save you getting depressed when a DC2 Type R integra whoops you around the track  you will not beat them on track

My car is fairly standard. And I have been to the nurburgring three times have done ten to fifteen trackdays in mondello and other tracks the only issue I have had is a gearbox ,but to be honest it was my fault I tend to use third as a brake .oh and just in case anyone thinks the wrx is not up to it mine has 160,000 miles on it and never had any engine needed the thing is to uprate your pads they are a weak point

Have to say there great fun and its easy to get the arse out.

I had more fun in a wrx than in the sti on the last trackday, and it took some abuse.
Overheated but that was my fault for not looking at the gauges and checking the pipes.

it was some craic watching from behind
some good laps ya did there :icon_headbang:

Good to see that one with 160k is still able for it. I've been on the track with the Interga's and they are impressive but not as an all round car which is what I hoped the WRX would be.

The wrx will be a better all round family, road car, but if its just for track use the Integra would be way to go. It will put in a faster lap than an Standard Evo or Subaru. But if its for multi purpose use and wrx suits you best then go with WRX, maybe pick up a spare set of wheels and have a set of tyres on them to spare your road tyres, Get some good break fluid and some decent pads.. Only thing with using the car as an everyday car aswell is that it can get costly to get the car ready to go back on the road asap, where if its for track use, then you have a few weeks or when ever suits you, if you know what i mean

all those hondas are gud for is drying up the track for the gud cars!!! :subaru: jus get an impreza and u b done for life den!!! best car to have fun in!!

Been too much of a woss to take my car on a track, but mate or me always have a cheap impreza or something turbo about, done two track days in cheap imprezas in mondello drove them as hard as I was able and both never skipped a beat except for brake fade due to shite pads and we were sharing cars myself and a mate driving till brakes went or session ended, but to be honest in mondello at least a bit too easy to push on, from a driving experience point of view a cheap rwd and a damp track is a better buzz. Have yet to try my type ra on track.

We bring my e30 318is mates twin cam and a scoob and we always end up doing more sessions in rwd

Are the classic's much less reliable than a new age car. I thought giving a high mileage classic a day like that in mondello would be the end of the engine. I prefer the look of the classic but have been told so many stories of engine trouble that I've been discounting them from my shopping list .

The last car we had out was a wagon standing him 800 quid he expected to blow, and it took savage abuse did 70 miles on track as hard as it would go, and apart from brakes it was 100% reliable just let her cool on last laps of session kept eye on fluid levels that was it. Serious value for money.

Car before had a few bits hybrid turbo, power fc, fuel miss, fmic etc and it was perfect once you keep it in power band don't rev like a vtec and keep sensible precautions like fluid levels and watch temps I think any impreza will be as reliable on track as any hard road driving session, probably more so because you pay more attention to temps, tires etc
