Yep 90s cars are more fun and more of an "experience" to drive... for all the reasons listed already: less weight, more mechanicals, less interference by electronics, less worries about CO2 so more about sporty tunes etc... and then there's the nostalgia... memories and dreams past... and the old skool cool. (what's cooler than UR Quattro 5 pot at full chat, or Lotus Twink in in RS Mark 1 escort, or R34 running 500BHP plus with minor mods...)...
--- if you're gonna make a Renault comparison... what about the '90s V6 MR Clio or 80's R5Turbo (wide arches) or Pug 205GTI compared to today's French "hot hatches"? -and don't get me started on Golf GTI mark 1 vs a mark 4 or 5 - might be more comfortable, but quite dull really.
Modern ones quicker, more comfortable, safer, better rust proofing etc etc, so better cars all round... but... not... as... much... fun! (unless maybe on the track where you can legally go at speeds where the extra speed can actually be used sensibly).
As for our kids... well by time they're in their 30's etc all cars will be electric probably... so anything that goes: suck, spark, bang, roarrr... will be old skool and maybe even "cool". And a few affordable '00-'10s cars like RX8, BRZ/ FT86, JCW etc. Keep in mind that at the time '90s cars were considered "modern" and not as much fun as cross-flow or twink with 38 or 45 Webbers in Mark 1 or 2, or v8 Stag, or 911SC etc. It's all about perception
