as above lads what is your opinions on this are 90s performance cars are they better (more fun) than there modern equivalent ,e.g
1.type R impreza vs sti s206
2.escort cosworth vs focus rs
3.vr6 golf vs golf R
4.renault 19 sport vs megane rs 265 sport
5.evo 1 vs evo 10
not specifically these cars but ye get the idea!!!!!!!!!

Twincam is defo better than a gt86

Type r Sti defo better than a s206

Far to much electronics in cars today

Have you seen the new Lancia delta? Not a patch on the old integrale evo!!!

yes there better but its probabley more to do with the fact the were posters on the bedroom wall more that anything else. newer car now are faster and more fun but you kinda look past that with 90's cars and forgive there flaws

agree on the twin cam but definitely not on the type R they are no way as good as the s 206 imo

They were and still are more FUN to drive than any newage impreza, s206 I have never driven, but it can't be as pure as a type r, I have driven 2 different s204 on track and are very quick and capable cars but the type r in defo more fun

I haven't driven s206 either but I have driven a type r and an s204 around the ring and all I can see from the type r is a false sense of speed, the excitement they give is just the lightness and they are loud inside steering is a bit numb in the centre of all classics they don't stay turned in on a bend unless they are modified where as the s204 is refined but still revvy powerfull and seriously stable at high speed they turn in great I think they are just a better car all round

I don't know if it's nostalgia or what but I prefer the older stuff, r34 gtr, supra. They would be fun, couldn't care how they handle or turn in or how refined they were, just tune them to mad power and scare myself every time in get in them

Ah ye but sure anything can be made to be fun but if out of the box New would it still be as much fun

All the above 90's cars in your list Dec are going to be lighter than there predecessors no matter what due to the newer cars carrying more weight with more safety features/electrical gadgets.. and we all know lighter cars make better performers!

Older cars may not be better with regards to the level of technology in them... but they'll be more fun and more raw. There's no right or wrong answer though... it all just comes down to personal taste and opinions. I for one would pick ol skool car over a new equivalent any day of the week... but I've always been like that. I'd spend my hard earned cash quicker on a classic car than I would a new one. It is a nostalagia thing.

You only have to look at the residuals on 90's icons to see how much people want.

Escort Cosworth, Honda Nsx, 993 911's..and even S14 200sx's are on the rise now....all rocketing up in price and have been for the last few years.

I think the pole speaks for itself

If the question had of been, which is the better cars? Modern cars would win hands down

But in terms of FUN, 90s cars rule!!!

gimme a cossie over a focus anyday ,mainly due to 4wd

old school =mechanical fun
newage = more computer driven ,less fun but faster !!

the question still remains who voted no :snooty: the big question is what are the kids of today going to look back on in 15-20 years and say i want 1 of them the ae86 and skyline r35 its slim pickings to be fair

That would be me Joe,that's why I asked the question ,I will always pick technology over nostalgia, yes I do get the argument for lightness and I agree totally but that's the only thing the old school has goin for it imo

Yep 90s cars are more fun and more of an "experience" to drive... for all the reasons listed already: less weight, more mechanicals, less interference by electronics, less worries about CO2 so more about sporty tunes etc... and then there's the nostalgia... memories and dreams past... and the old skool cool. (what's cooler than UR Quattro 5 pot at full chat, or Lotus Twink in in RS Mark 1 escort, or R34 running 500BHP plus with minor mods...)...

--- if you're gonna make a Renault comparison... what about the '90s V6 MR Clio or 80's R5Turbo (wide arches) or Pug 205GTI compared to today's French "hot hatches"? -and don't get me started on Golf GTI mark 1 vs a mark 4 or 5 - might be more comfortable, but quite dull really.

Modern ones quicker, more comfortable, safer, better rust proofing etc etc, so better cars all round... but... not... as... much... fun! (unless maybe on the track where you can legally go at speeds where the extra speed can actually be used sensibly).

As for our kids... well by time they're in their 30's etc all cars will be electric probably... so anything that goes: suck, spark, bang, roarrr... will be old skool and maybe even "cool". And a few affordable '00-'10s cars like RX8, BRZ/ FT86, JCW etc. Keep in mind that at the time '90s cars were considered "modern" and not as much fun as cross-flow or twink with 38 or 45 Webbers in Mark 1 or 2, or v8 Stag, or 911SC etc. It's all about perception

I'm a fan of the old stuff and always have been, have a rare 25 year old twin charged micra for the last 6-7years, have had a 95 ra Sti , I do think the old stuff is a lot more fun but I understand that the newer cars are better in terms of refinement, stability, comfort . If I had the chance I would buy a new age impreza tbh
