Timing belt and pulleys as your in there. Be rude not to.
:needpics:

He's thinking upgrading to lightweight pulleys etc if there's not much price difference.

I thought I read that light weight pulleys weren't good under a certain power
the ordinary one was better :dontknow:

The mans gone power mad already. He's thinking STI pistons, rods, crank, turbo and intake :D
Crank same
Rods same
Pistons different but take no more power

STi Heads is what you want.
Is the whole head different or is it just valves and cams etc that are different?
Casting numbers are different.

More aggresive cam profile

I think I might know where there is a full gasket rebuild kit that was never used, let me know if it's of interest.

I'd reckon your mate would want to be allowing 2000-2500 if he is doing it right. He might not think it but for example all new timing gear will cost him minimum @ 300-400 euro.... New modine from memory are about 250.... New oil pump about 200-250..... So that's nearly 1k... He still hasn't bought a gasket of seal... Still hasn't bought any internal parts, talking about 300-400 to get heads skimmed.... He need to reseat the valves, new stem seals, new oils, new filters, new coolant

I think I would look at getting a newage sti bottom end 2bd hand and take my chance with it

We do oil pumps e195.00
Oil modine e195.00

Although new age sti have better internal parts.when you are as far stripped down as the short block. Imo be crazy not to just spilt block and refresh bearings. Even big ends.

Have seen in UK new age sti second short blocks go for £800gbp/e980euro. Plus delivery.

We do new age sti recon blocks at e1350. Thats new age sti short engine. Head surface decked. Cylinders fresh honed. New ACL bearings. New piston rings.

I suppose we can talk on as many threads as we want about cost of engine rebuilds or swaps etc etc, but the hard facts are don't matter what approach is taken, if doing it right it's going to cost big money... Whether a 2nd hand bottom end is bought like I mentioned or a rebuilt block like you have mentioned... There is still a lot of money to be spent on all the bits that you never really put much thought into....
If he has a new block sitting in front if him he still has, heads to sort out, head studs, head gaskets, rocker seaks and gaskets, cam seals, inlet gaskets, exh mani gaskets, plugs, oil, filter, timing gear, timing belt, new modine, new oil pump.

So at a guess still another 1200 quid to spend after he has block sorted.... The joys of it

after being there its a money pit. gretts has a fresh enough engine for sale for 1200 euros thats where my money would be drop it in job done

110% ^^^

Amount of guys call and believe a rebuild with everything listed above supplied and fitted for likes of e1500 is crazy.

When I seen the figure of 500 I thought that will be doubled without even thinking about it. If doing yourself of coarse you can save money but still a fortune to build an engine with all the essentials Ken and Dave listed . I think 4500 was my final figure but that was including some tools etc

Tell him yo have a good think about it before he starts cos when he.s 2k in he will have to stay going and finish it  my engine build will stand me somewhere around 6k

Yea, if your anything like me you will try convince yourself that it will only cost this or that... Trying to make yourself feel Better lol.... But it will always cost a lot more...
