Advice on what to do (bodyshop)

The spoiler subject is about getting final payment when done. Leverage.
Will do the lot but leave spoiler till get final funds. Etc.
Get it regularly in work.
Games.
I wouldn’t think so… he has car so it is not being released untill full payment regardless..

The spoiler thing is weird, as in the job is not complete untill it is painted, and you won’t pay untill job is completed in full…

The quality of work and the final price will be very interesting to see

What will you do if he comes back and says you owe him crazy money?
There's crazy money and there's there's taking the piss. I don't think there is going to be an issue with the final bill. His problem is there is no final bill until the car is 100% complete and I'm not handing over a cent if I'm not happy with the end result. I'm gone wayyyyyy beyond being nice, patient and willing to be flexible with this now.

I can only imagine how pissed feel.. That spoiler thing is just pure bs, I wonder should you have banged him a soliciters reply saying that’s not acceptable and the car has to 100% finished in 4 weeks, or the car will be removed and you will be seeking compensation for the time car has sat there.

My solicitor is aware of the spoiler issue. I forwarded to them the email he sent me with the agreed completion date with the spoiler caveat added to it. Firstly they commented at how stupid this guy is to have put that in an email just a day after agreeing a completion date LOL then they just said it's just more evidence I have to use against him if needs be. I honestly don't think this guy understands the situation he's gotten himself into. I've kept giving him rope for nearly 2 years and he's hanging himself with it.

UPDATE JULY 25TH 2023

Dropped up to the bodyshop this morning. 5 weeks since I was there last when the finish date was agreed. The car is now rust free and in primer!!!!!!!!!! except for the front and rear bumpers which he said he was starting on today. I asked was he still on course for August 12th finish as agreed and he said yeah.

The spoiler issue? I realise I didn't explain this earlier in my previous posts. So the OEM spoiler is in primer and ready for paint. However, back in March I gave him a P2000 spoiler which I want fitted. I had no intention of changing the spoiler from OEM but because the car was still there and not in primer yet when I saw the P2000 spoiler for sale I thought sure why not. If the car was in primer and ready for paint back in March like he said it would be I wouldn't have bought it.
I gave him this spoiler on March 6th. He did say the fitment is EXTREMELY bad and will need a lot of work to make it fit but it can be done. This is why he put in the email last June 20th that the "spoiler may not be ready". I asked today about meeting the August 12th deadline and he said yeah but did once again say the P2000 spoiler may not be ready by then. Again, I gave it to him back on March 6th so to not have a spoiler prep'd and painted regardless of how bad the fitment is in 5 months since I gave it to him is just not acceptable to me. Told him my preference is to have the P2000 spoiler fitted and I expected it to be ready by August 12th. He said he'd do his best.

Anyway, I'm happy the car is in primer and almost ready for paint. This primer will be blocked down and another coat of primer will go on before paint.

Good to hear there is progress being made....end of the saga should be in sight for you..👍👍

Great stuff. Had to get bold in the first place to get it going but working out after all 👌👌

Getting there 👍👍👍 but I doubt it’s going to be ready by the 12th of august. 2 weeks time hopefully I’m wrong but it’s ambitious

I would hope the guy won't just paint it without letting it settle. His painting is top notch in fairness to him so I'll assume he knows what he is doing.

Im sure he does but your 12th deadline is the problem now , he is under pressure to have it finished.
There is a hell of alot of work to do with that car to have it ready in time without leave it sat for 2 weeks in primer.

It could be in primer for 2 weeks so it’s ok but still a lot of work painting and putting back together

It won’t be ready on the 12th , I think closer to the end of August in my opinion
This is more realistic I think. It was June 19th when we agreed August 12th giving him almost 2 months to finish but I recon he still let it sit there doing no work on it until this week. Thereby putting himself under more pressure.

Look either way it’s close .
What’s happening with the engine ?
I don't even want to begin to think how long that is going to take. LOL I haven't fully decided on a spec yet as it will depend on whats left in the budget after I pay for this work.
