AWD vs ICE?

Hello Lads,

I would never drive a RWD car in this type of weather after having the Scooby

I bought a Mazda RX-8 in 2004, after having a 2001 Turbo Wagon :icon_confused:

The first winter I had with the car, I went to go up a hill with a bit of snow / ice on it

Really scary moment..... traction control kicking in @ 3000rpm and car sliding sideways........ :wall:

I had to stop the car, turn the car off (to "Really" turn off the traction control  ) as pressing the traction control off button did not "really" turn the traction control off :hammerhead:

With the traction control off, it took me ages to get the RWD car up this hill

After that I swore I would get back into a AWD car & have not looked back since

The car has been brilliant over the last couple of weeks & with the control available I would not trust any RWD or FWD car in this type of weather again

Cheers,

Michael

AWD is the business, gets up the hill in my estate and my neighbours have to park at the bottom can't make and mine breezes up like there is no ice there. great on the roads, holds it so well. happy days haha
:multijump:

Ya 4wd is class, was able to pull brothers car up an ice and snow covered road no bother didnt spin once :subaru:

hi lads.
I'm in the 1.6 gang as well with my hawkeye and we had our first bit of snow in cork yesterday.
Tried to go up the hill yesterday eve to visit the father in law to make sure he was ok in the wifes vw golf and we couldn't make it up the hill to him.
We came home and changed into the scooby and breezed up the hill no bother.
Same hill again this morning and cars were lining up at the bottom of it to have a go like the sand enduro races you see on eurosport.
Got up the hill again no bother first time. Left them all there at the bottom
The car hasn't missed a beat in the cold weather and only mis-behaves when i make her :subaru: :subaru:

My little 1991 318is e30 BMW is more than a handfull in this weather. No ABS, no traction control and rear wheel drive. She still gets me to carlow and back to Cork every week.
Smooth and steady and accepting that you have no grip is the key!
Getting a false sense of security is where you are going to run into trouble.

since the scoob isnt back on the road yet iv been driving around in the wifes 318bmw.....
Had some amount of fun but its only when i have asked it to throw the arse it will.......

have had no moments that i havent anticipated or gone looking for.....

:icon_redface: :icon_redface:got too confident with AWD. did a 360 on entrance to my estate - no control whatsoever.only lucky to avoid hitting anything.half the place saw me so pretended i meant it!!!!!!!!!. failed- the smiles on their faces........ :hammerhead:

Have to say the AWD Impreza in the family is a great job these days alright. Have gone up some serious hills as if it was dry almost. My front wheel drive is useless though...worse than alot of other fwd's by the looks of it. Anyone else find the FWD 1.6 particularly bad at going up hills?

Had to bring the girlfriend to her course a few days because she just wouldnt drive in the snow and ice and my car was only one that could get in and out of the car park while every one else was gettin towed out with jeeps etc , great fun gettin it a bit sideways 2
