brz review

When first heard of this car I though 200 bhp what section of the car market is it going to fit into. I mean a special edition corsa is faster than that. I honestly thought it might be a disaster also as now with the way cars are going 250+ plus bhp and anything below that your at nothing but with the down turn all over the world a car like this might have a market, bit of power sporty looks and good mpg.It might work but its never gonna blow you away like your first drive in an sti etc.

200 bhp on rear wheel , ~ 1200 kg , boxer engine . Would choose it any day over a 300+ bhp front wheel drive hot hatch.

Thinks it an Audi TT aimed market

Id say its dismal to drive, and not realy for someone who wants a fast car, An sir civic or glanza will probably be quicker in reality, they are saying its light, but its not much lighter than a 2 dr Classic STI, and that had DCCD, 4WD, AND loads more power and torque from the factory.
And going on past N/A Subaru engines, id say 25-30mpg will be more realistic rather than 40..
I can see it trying to claw in on the market of the mr2, Audi TT, z3, 350z etc etc. Could well end up a hairdressers car

this car is not about head line figures... it's supposed to be about driver involvement..they deliberately put it on thinner tyres to reduce lateral grips, kept it na for throttle response and lightweight...
think of this as a mainstream lotus Elise but with 4 seats and Toyota/Subaru reliability, decent warranty good mpg, low CO2...it's not going to blow your socks off no but that's not what this car is for...
High power and huge grip are fun no doubt but you cant get anywhere the limits of even a 300bhp STi on the public roads, on a track an STI will be quicker but the BZR will be more fun, and much cheaper to run.
Subaru haven't changed the basic forumale of the Impreza for nearly 20 years and whether you like it or not it's dead on its arse...I think they've recognized a good opportunity here.

So your saying to get them off there arse they are going to rely on people spending 40k on a car for the track?
I wudnt hold my breath on a boxer engine being responsive, it's not what they are known for

no its not a track car specifically, all the reviews so far say the engine is responsive...either way any N/A car will be have better throttle response than a FI....the car will be 25k in the UK which is not to bad..not great but a new platform from scratch it was an expensive development. You asking who is going tpo buy it at 40k, the question is who actually buys new STI's? no one...there's one hatch on this site and that's an 08, so Subaru are not selling STI's...EVO's are now completely dead.
The engine uses a new direct injection system from Toyota so it ins't comparable with the old boxers for mpg and CO2, for a modern car complying with NCAP regulation etc and with all mods cons it is extremely light..show me anything thats lighter its 1180 kg?
This car is like a RWD Integra Type r, that's how I see it anyway...what are Subaru to do? the market for rally reps is completely dead times have changed

i think subaru are going in the right direction, light, rwd and good mpg, a real drivers car like a mx5, this will be a little less hairdressy than an open top mx5 but i'm still confused by the stories im reading, subaru have gone N/A engine but the rest of europe eg. bmw are going twin turbo and soon enough tripple turbo small engined cars, even the new m5 has dropped 2 cylinders and the m3 will do the same.

i hope they sell over here, as i will never buy a new car but hopefully a few will come up second hand in a few years time.

Well i think we can all agree on that its nothing to do with any cars design that makes it not sell here, vrt and just no money are the obstacles..

I just cant see why they didnt stick the STi engine it... Its not going to be anything like a Type R Integra, straight away its not putting out the bhp per cc like the B18C, It doesnt have a great Red line either, its not turbo but has a 2.5 turbo redline, so i think the engine is not going to be great. Even do it may use the Toyota Direct engine injection, not really a big deal is it? Toyota havent been really blowing peoples socks off with power or revy engines..And the boxter engine is just not made to be revvy imo.
The weight of a 2litre engine is there already so a turbo engine wasnt going to be much more, stick with a small turbo on it that has no lag and it would be every bit as responsive as a good N/a, after all who would be below 2k revs on track?
If i was going to test drive a new car 2mro i want to come back and say fuk that was good... not fuk that wasnt anything special but it might be good on the track heres my 26k sterling.. I really think its heading into the Audi TT, Z3 market

with the tt been a golf in essence surely the brz will be way ahead of the competition from there , the vw scirocco is in the same boat , also , what is wrong with a 200 bhp n/a motor ? my old r sport was around 160 ish and it was by no means a slow car ,i remember when the civic type r was launched the whole idea of 100bhp per litre was unheard of and recieved rave reviews , subaru has achieved 100 bhp per litre and coupled that to rear wheel drive , i think its unfair to put the car down before its even launched . i will test drive one when they come out and if its half decent i may trade , sure its two thirds the power of the sti but if it was possible to run as an every day car why not

Your right its definitly worth a test drive and may be excellant, i just think they were using the 2ltr boxer lump and the gearbox will no doubt be similar to the 4wd box, so it would have took very little to give it 280bhp..
One other thing, has anyone seen a pic that gives a good idea of its size?? there claiming its the smallest rwd 4seater ever, im thinking of the rx8 or rx7, could it be much smaller than that?

its very small only slightly bigger than an mx5 so with 200 bhp it will be very fun to drive i think, heres a comparsion overlay of a few cars i know its the ft86 but its basically the same car

Well im just 6ft and ive found Mx5s and S2000s to be a sardine can, so with this being a shake bigger than the mx5 but having 4 seats.??????? where the fuk am i gonna fit?

its supposed to be very driver focused and have a sh*t back seat and none excistent boot so maybe it has more room for the driver :dontknow:

Guy who test drove it for pistonheads is 6' 4" and didn't complain...and as for throttle response no turbo will ever have the same response as an N/A..but I don't need to tell you that you've probably forgotten more about engines than I know,
the reason it doesn't have the redline , the same reason why vtecs are dead , is the emissions testing is done at a certain percentage of max revs/Torque..so if your revving out to 8000 and producing torque up there you basically screwed...really unfair test and has nothing to do with real world performance but that's the EU for you... that's why it favours turbo's and we are seeing the death of high revving engines...it has slightly worse power to weight than the integra but it's as close as we are gonna get

i think it will be a savage little car for a couple of reasons

1.its reportedly only 1200 odd kilos so lighter than a type r
2. it has near 50 /50 weight distribution so it will be a great handling car
3.has reasonable mpg
4.lowish road tax compared to sti
5.it will be sold worldwide so give it six months and there will be a raft of tuning goodies available, because of the layout it will be a drift car so that will create a big following to drive the tuning scene even more i bet there will be superchargers and turbo conversions within the first year so you could be looking at a 350-400 bhp rear drive coupe a little bigger than an mx-5 .im sorry traditional scoobie it may not be but i would definitely have one all day long

thats just my two cents on the matter :subaru: :subaru:
