You could contact the Consumer information crowd or citizens advice etc etc to get an idea of where you actually stand.
Some Soliciters just arent arsedm you need to go see a few that are local to you, state your case ad tell them you feel that this guy will fold with a good harsh Soliciters letter..
Trust me, dont matter what this guy says, or how much you mention Soliciter, when he gets a Soliciters letter in his letter box.. well its a diffeent story then, it will be reality check.. he will have to way up his choices, pay up and get rid of you or go to the hassle of getting represented himself, court appearance, all the hassle, cost. and in my humble opinion a very high chance he will loose..
You could also contact SIMI, this guy may or may not be a member, but they might give you some idea of what to do.

Being a dealer really ties him to this, even if he sold you a car at trade price with no come back.... thing is you still have come back because he is a dealer.
