car lost power on m4 !!!!!!

the hen

Petrolheads
was heading down home to sligo after doing nights last night and went through toll plaza and gave suddenly lost all rev and wouldn start again. !!! had to pull into hard shoulder and wait hour and half for tow truck to come to bring me to ian in cartork in clane, at the charge of 200euro also........... expensive taxi......... he has not got a chance to look at it yet so hopefully tomorrow will know more. not a good day today and thought my luck was changing with united winning last nite !!!

Hope it's nothing to serious! Have you an apexi ecu in your car?

ya have apexi ecu and power commander. hopefully nothing serious it seems more electrical to me but i know f all in fairness bout engines. was bad morning cos was wrecked for sleep and had to get girlfriend to come up to collect me in clane from sligo. just lost all rev and wouldn start. telling ya buying a tow truck they must be making a fortune........

I'd say your your MAF censor went! A standard ECU would go into safe mod but the apexi just stops! If you try to start it it would have just chugged a bit and stopped again! Hopefully it's all it is!

If so Davelegacy will be rolling in it soon!

Don't worry to much!
More than likely a loose battery terminal or something silly like that!
Do let us know how you get on
Dan

the only tow truck i knew was sti tuning but rang directory enq and had no listing so got some fella from clane. sound fella i must admit. then nearest garage was cartork and i have been referred to them before from friends and members here. ian seems a sound fella so will leave it in his very capable hands. hopefully nothing too serious or expensive !!!

Ian's a good man alright! but he is flat out busy he had two mechanics leave him recently soon is literally turning away work at the moment!
I'd give him a ring and see does he intend to even look at the car any time soon! never mind work on it!
If not get it some were else!
Dan

he said he would hopefully get to look at it this evening but doubt he did. ya he said he would take on 2 apprentices at minute but no young fellas want work. i will ring him tomorrow as i literally dumped it on him this morning so give him benefit of doubt. im in no major hurry just wanna know problem more than anything

Hello TheHen,

Only a suggestion.... But Dave Leggy's technician could do a call-out if Ian is too busy :ponder: :ponder: :ponder:

Cheers,

Michael

Buy a Maf censor go down and Pujt it in yourself! I'm sure that what it is!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope you can get it sorted, joining the AA is agreat idea, i got the full package its about €140 for the year.
(i dont work for them or anything) but mine wouldnt start for ages and when it did it wouldnt stay ticking over for long, said feck it rather than
spend all sunday chasing wire's rang the AA (played dumb, wasnt hard) your man had a basic O.E.M. scan tool, had her running in no time.
Loose main fuse that had melted inside the engine fuse box and a bad spark plug connection

if not i'd check it out,coz its 200+ for full cover

I have a maf sensor lying there from my sti6, should be the same as yours. I replaced it with a new one as my idle was slightly off & it was suggested that you should change them regularly anyway, but it still works. You're more than welcome to it if its any use to you, might at least confirm if its deffo the maf.

Yeah once is enough, its rough bein broke down for hours, people slow down to look but not to help. Mad world,
but then again there could be a Hannibal Lecter job waiting to make "new friends".
