Celica 1.8vvti as a swap (is200 was a no go)

Re: Lexus IS200

I used to work for this woman and she had 2 of them , said she loved them and thet gave her no problems .
Also that show auto traded had nothing bad to say about them.

Re: Lexus IS200

No major problems with them
Fairly easy on petrol was going to look at 1 myself the other day but might hold off buying something till the wagon actually sells!
They aren't a performance car and therefore can disappoint some people when they drive them!!!! But as far as comfort goes they are great!!!!

Re: Lexus IS200

Well made, go for ever> about 150bhp so not fast but I think they are a nicer drive than the Altezza rs200 version...it's not a performance car so you might as well have the silky straight 6 and comfort rather than a noisy peaky 4 cylinder hard riding altezza.

Re: Lexus IS200

Thanks lads

Would you get 35-40mpg with them?

Its mainly for the missus so an altezza was never an option, something nice and comfortable with reasonable mpg is all we're after. We were ideally looking to swap for a diesel but the idea of this now which will most likely do better mpg than the beetle and cash our way is quite enticing :ponder:

no way not a hope..more like 27-30mpg real world figures..its a 6 clyinder after all..A little better than an E36 320i but not much

Re: Lexus IS200

hmm, thats not good :icon_sad: ... Will need a few more quid on top then in that case  .. She does 90% motorway mileage so it'd probably be happier there than the beetle is. You've to rev the bollix out of the beetle at 4K revs just to do 120kmph and it just eats petrol on the motorway... i'd put the beetle on par with the B4 for mpg between 100-120kmph, its that bad..

Re: Lexus IS200

For people looking for a fun sporty car and are interested in the IS200, I'd suggest an Altezza. For someone looking at an IS200 as a nice car for the missus to replace her beetle while keeping MPG in mind, I'd suggest something like an A3 tdi, 320d, Merc C180.

Re: Lexus IS200

While they are the ideal options (see add), there may not be many bites looking to trade from diesel to petrol. The only way i could trade it would probably be in a garage and putting cash to the sale which is not ideal.

What would be the better trading option in a garage? Would you be able to bargain better if i went in there with a cheaper is200 and more cash in hand? Or would the fact that its a 2.0 petrol put off the garages a bit?

OF course the conditions its used in are the most relevant...the long gearing including the 6th gear should see much better mileage at 120kmh than a beetle...

Maybe a MKIV GTI?

My GTI used to do anything between 12mg & 38mpg. :D

Re: Lexus IS200

Cheers for the advice lads, think I might take a look at it and see what sort of condition its in and if its reasonable, then we may well go for it

Re: Lexus IS200

Great car, bullet proof. It's really easy to drive and as the lads say it gets you 27 -30 mpg, but is good on motorway journeys unlike my RX. There are 3 versions to look out for, the S, the SE (excecutive) and the Sport. They all have the same engine but the Sport has a LSD, 17 inch wheels and is 5 mm lower. The SE and Sport have heated seats, better sound system and a sunroof. The S is still better equiped than a standard BMW though and much more reliable. With 150 bhp it isn't a rocket ship but once it gets going it will trash most saloon cars up to motor way speed.

Re: Lexus IS200 - now celica option

Decided against the lexus, it was a bit of a bag.

Been offered a swap on a 2002 Celica 1.8vvti. What are peoples opinions on this? mpg obviously the deciding factor. Are all the 1.8vvti petrols 6 speed or only some? Anyone any experience?

Here's the link, wheels have to go obviously but the woman like it so its a possibility now: http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1800593

I used to have a 01 vvti before i got the ra as far as i know they all are 6 speed not bad on juice at all especially on long runs mine used to get to sligo and back on just over half a tank (250 mile round trip) only reason i sold it was i needed the 4 doors but they are very comfortable as well i found and not a rocket ship but nice amount of poke in them

Thanks Paul, it mainly motorway mileage she does so thats not too bad. How big was the tank? Trying to find specs on the interweb but not having much luck :comp26:
