ECU REMAP

Hey Folks

I have a 99 GTB Legacy with apparently a 01 B4 Leggy engine as the last one let go.
Running mint at present, but looking to upgrade a little.
I have spoken to Nick @ Couture and he has given me a price for an ecuteck remap

So the question is... I have the money, but am struggling to justify the cost. I understand
the benefits of the map and running the car safely etc, but is it really worth spending that much money?

Ill be looking to install a panel filter, fuel pump and decat the exhaust.
What I need to know is:

A) Is it really going to change the car and be worth spending the bones of €700
B) What decat do I need to do? To get the most out of the car. Do I have to go Full turbo back or???
C) How do you people sleep at night! Ive been into modding cars for years and still can never justify spending money on myself! It drives me nuts, my wife is cool about my love of Subarus and never moans If I spend money on them, its my inner demons I fight with!

Any pills that I can take that will make it easier on my brain to part with my money!!!
HELP!!!

I got my 99 Uk turbo ecuteked on Thursday last by Simon from JGM
with a good few mods beforehand it went from STD 215 bhp to 307 bhp at just 1.1 bar could have gone for more but wanted to run as safe as possible
Different animal to drive now well worth it

how much did it cost you to get the extra 92 bhp??

and did you have to upgrade yours brakes to deal with it?

its always nice to have more power but is it worth the bhp per euro

@ Duffman
I do understand that Euro for BHP wont make any sense, im talking more about the driveability of the car, response, Safety and yes of course that bit of power thatll come along with it. As is im very limited to doing even the most basic of mods as I can tweak a map etc.
Whereas If i spent the money on the initial mapping I could tip away in the knowledge that I can tweak it and still be safe!

I've been shopping for bits for months all sorts of goodies have been found all at good value
One of these interesting bits was an ecu that already had the ecutek licence on it so all I had to pay for was a tweak map
And yes I have the stoppers sorted brembo conversion was my first mod

i never had a leggy or any twin turbo but i do believe the map makes a good difference to the drive as it takes away that void between primaary and secondary turbo. i wouldnt bother mapping a car doh with out decating it first but then with the car over ten years old it has to be nct every year which means yours going to have to put the cat back in every year just for nct. i ve never seen a b4 over 300 bhp (280 standard) without heavy modding so imo its not worth 700 euro, it might be worth 300 euro but not 700 for driveability, mapping doesnt make your car safe either, lots have gone bang after a map, especially when mapping up the boost to far to try get more power.

so it roughly cost you??

cant see it been alot less than 2k

But in reality the car is probably making 250 on standard fuel and the TT's suffer much more with lower octane fuel because of the higher compression..for me a remap transforms the TT's...better spread of torque..lowers the VOD.... improves economy and certainly performance...although your end figure probably won't be more than 300 with the boost turned up on the first turbo you can make great low down torque.. after my second map i was making 1 bar of boost before 2500rpm so it transformed the low down grunt of the car....
depends on the car also but for me..considering a paid the bones of 1700 euro for a 2 down pipes fuel pump and map... it seems like a bargain at 700

It's true everything has a limit
But my main reason for mapping was to be sure the car was fueling rite under boost as I had changed turbo
Didn't wanna go blownin me engine
Yes 300 was me target but if it was unachievable at reasonable boost less would have done
Don't know alot about the twin turbo set up but I seen lads sayin it's hard to map properly

Just had a quick tot up there as I hadn't before
Front mount fuel reg full decat 3" exhaust vf23 hks headers. Uppipe
Walbro pump the ecu and the map all done at
1290 euro

wow you got some deal there welldone man

realistically that stuff should cost alot more plus labour

Agree with Dagnut, a remap will make your car alot more enjoyable to drive, will make the most of your mods and should increase your safety.
At €700 its not bad, it was much much more than that when i got it done!!!

Got all secondhand most off forums and donedeal them fitted myself and got it mapped when all is done instead of 3 or 4 tweaks
It class since the remap Highly recommended
If nothing else it can be mapped for Irish fuel

remember though, the main thing about mapping it is he can map it to IRISH fuel!!

yes we all se E5, but E5 is a rather inferior fuel, quoted as 99ron on their website, but in reality i am told (by a very reliable mapper) it behaves more like a 97ron fuel!! much like the uk BP ultimate is "97" but burns like a 95, E5 just doesn't hold a patch of Vpower and tesco99 for det resilience

no wonder so many Leggys go pop over here, as well as the poor fuel, running higher compression ratios

so the main reason I am going to remap it, is to save the cost of another rebuild down the line, what is €500 in the grand scheme of things, the 320+ bhp will just be a nice side effect

Hi lads,I was just wondering if my 01 legacy b4 is worth mapping???I dont thinkn it ever was mapped,it has a standard ecu and everyting else is standard apart from a stainless induction pipe!would the car be running any different and how much would it cost me just to remap my standard ecu or can it be done???

Approx €600 for mine to be mapped, but best bet is to ask Nick in Cotoure Auto as he can remap for various different prices depending on the ecu.

Seriously doubt you will make 320bhp on 95....maybe mapped with a good dose of NF... especially with the smaller turbo's on the auto
