Just the last few months there seems to be someone on every second week with engine failure bottom ends going etc. Just thought about puttin up a poll to see which ones are going. is there a pattern etc.. if its a dumb idea I'll take it down.. I curious to know if unmapped cars go more than mapped ones etc

98 v4 type r. mapped to 95+boost juice. not sure yey but presumed bottom end failure. father described it as a worrying rattling sound.
81 600km on the dial

a disciption might be good if people had detail of what happened. ie piston or bigend failure, was it caused by no oil pressure or from detination etc

When i bought my car originally; it dropped a Valve , then after that the big end .

Fitted Apexi ECU and a few other bits  AndyF re-map and never a problem since
that was nearly 3 yrs /60,000 miles ago.

Lads having engine failure is a real balls, i know, it's happened twice and that was in the space of
2 months but maybe if we could get some more info we could try to pin point the reasons

1. Why did it happen ? Car was left sitting idle for over 6 mths, TypeR = High revving engine, i was promised she was all ran in, bought it,
floored it for the next 3 day's and bang !!! Got garage to fit new short block and the muppetts never changed the oil pump
4 weeks later and big end failure due to oil starvation.

2. Would you map her again ?
Definitely ................if it wasn't for Amsterdam it would have been the best €1,000 i have ever spent

3. Who mapped it ?

oh right, didnt read poll right,

I thought he was asking if ur car was mapped or not lol. Mine isnt mapped and hasnt gone bang lol

lads i heard from a guy in the uk that api the people who import parts for jap cars said he has started fitting full set of bearings and a pump to every scooby engine because of premeture bearing wear especially on sti and type r engine he had a load of them back after sellin them , so now he rebuilds them all before sale and has cured the problem they also recommend a remap after engine replacement, cars comin into ireland could be the same, also being a mechanic myself oil quality and length of service interval can have a major effect on engine life no matter where the car comes from you need service history,if you dont have it how do ya if it was looked after ,just my opinion.....

Thanks Wagon Dec

How much would a set of bearrings cost ????
The pumps are about €100 i think :ponder2:

Might not be a bad mod if thinking of a re-map but would it be expensive to have new
bearrings fitted ???

Niall.

the bearings are only 200 euro for acl uprated ones full set ,but to fit them you could be lookin at a grand because you would have oils, filter ,coolant ,gaskets and timing belt and labour but would be a good idea for anyone importing one
