What about an I pod (with the find my pod app) wired/hidden in the car. Might work???

:smokin:

Genius idea, download Find my iPhone/iPod app and away you go, brilliant.

How would you charge it? the stand alone units work because they have long life batteries.
recon you could hard wire it into back of lighter or some other power source. ??????????
Might look into it

Easy to hard wire it to the car, only problem is that it would have to be a cheap iPhone 3 or similar, as an iPod would need wireless internet connection. I suppose in theory it could work but it probably would be cheaper/easier to buy a china tracker.

I got this one.

http://www.ebay.ie/itm/TK102-Smalle...ics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item4ac2e94d3a

You will need another sim card, any this it how it works, the sim card will need to be toped up with credit, and the device sends you a text message with the location ( if it does have signal, will send it as soon as it gets ), it gives you coordenates and current speed, also a link for google earth...

Works just fine for me.

When u say a link for google earth, you mean u can see where the car is on a map? Can u follow it live?

All add-ons are activated, it can tell were the car has been, where it is, what max speed and when the car is at a predefined distance from you. The system is provided with a password so that you can configurate only the the required mobile phones ...

Also the battery has a stand-by life of 120h, or you can do it as i did and connect the power suply to the ignition and it will charge while its on ..

Did I hear somewhere that the serious thieves are on to trackers and the first thing they do is drive into underground car parks or the like so the GPS can't get a satelite location?... :ponder:

Also do the trackers with Irish SIMs still locate car if it was put on Ferry over to UK before you noticed it gone?? i.e would they locate it somewhere in UK?

I'm sure if you looked hard enough there's a device to block trackers that can be bought online

Sure aren't the cnuts using something similar to disable house alarms.

Just goes to prove if they want it they can get it.
