Head gasket??

Hi

I dont know if i am having a similar problem but i am at my wits end with it....story so far.....

Last October 2008, after not driving my type r for about 6 months, i went on a spin from Dublin to Nenagh...noticed overheating....stopped topped her up...but on way back she let go and had to get it towed...got a new mechanic in Borris in Ossory recommended to me by the tow guy who happened to drive a scooby too... he had a look and told me there was a hole in the rad which had caused the overheating....new block required....

spend lots on a new engine and bits and pieces and less than 1000kms (below 4000rpm) on the new one,, she starts overheating and blows again....mechanic reckons the replacement engine had a weak head from lying around (apparently a common fault)....gets another replacement engine from the same crowd for free and puts her all back together again...another run in on the engine and she blows again!!!

Same issues, losing coolant...bubbling coolant etc.....overheating....then bang

Now she is sitting there for nearly 8 months and i have another replacement waiting to go in, but mechanic reckons i should put an uprated head on it and he is going to get the lot crack tested etc.....

I am at my wits end...no scooby for a year...and i dont know if the mechanic is cocking up....he has worked on loads of scoobys and i have had good reports about him...so what do i do?????

oh...and one other thing....before all this started i had got the limiter taken off it and converted to mph from kpm and all the crack that goes with that....he also mentioned boost issues at the time and turned it down as i was getting loads of lag with a dump valve i had got fitted, she was constantly overboosting and the sensor was shutting the power out.

Well lad... Sounds like you have had untold amounts of issues with engines going pop... What mods are on the car and was the ECU remapped to the new engine when it was put in?
Surely when fitting a new engine this has gotta be first on the list of things that need doing? I dont know if you where using uprated parts in the engines or what you were using!!! I dont know if you ever had the car mapped before hand? Sounds like something is out of place there alright... Speak to the site traders on the phone to get a bit of advice.... once the engine is fitted while your still running it in maybe ya should get it to one of the traders to give it the once over?
Yes getting it remapped and maybe getting a full health check might cost ya a few bob..... But sure its better than not bein able to drive the motor?

at mick241000 : Most lads who map cars turn off , any settings in the Apexi Hand controller
that could cause trouble , normally all your left with are all the fault warnings / sensor readings and rev & boost
settings ................plus the graph settings etc.... :dontknow:

at Urabus97: JeSuS mate your having some horrible trouble there , sorry to here that , at least your mechanic is standing
by you MOST DON'T, one issue i would have is that unfortunately the actual fault was never probably diagnosed
and therefore not fixed so it wont matter what heads or what engine you put in , if the fault isn't sorted , you'll be back to square one.

Hopefully someone might be able to point you in the right direction.

Niall.
