HELP. Anybody know this Subaru?

Alright lads,

I'm a new member here. I have been considering my first Subaru for awhile now and recently saw this on done deal and instantly fell in love.

Does anyone know the car?

Now I was meant to view it today and had a price negotiated.
He has receipts/Certs for the engine swap from STI tuning. I believe there might be a
Member or two on here from that company? Any info be great.

So I was all excited about viewing my potentially new car. And he rings me Monday and says ill have to leave off the viewing. He took it for a spin and could hear a whine out of the turbo (bearing more than likely) so he said he has a brand new VF35 turbo sorted and will part exchange the old reconditioned turbo + €400 for the new one and should be installed next week. He said the reconditioned turbo must not have been broken in properly. The previous owner did the engine swap and turbo by the way.

At least he didn't ignore it before selling it to someone else although you'd easily pick up on that.

Anyway I'm still interested in the car as long as he has receipts and photos to prove.

Opinions/advice are very welcome!

Cheers!

Never heard of anyone breaking in a turbo....

Maybe it's just not ment to be and you should look at something else

@scoobycolm - that's it I'd say. Lovely looking car altogether. Never liked the bugs till now

@IanFl - think I found it cheers!

@KENC - he said something about after the turbo is fitted about flushing out the coolant and after a 1000 miles changing the oil again to break it in.

I'm not too sure as I don't know much about it. Seems like a genuine fella though.

Any more info be great.

Thanks lads!

*This is just for my own record*

Previous owners:

Bearxxxx (Aidan) --> STi Shane --> Current Owner: Jack (Waterford)

I have sent pm to Aidan and Shane about the car.

Aidan owned for 5 years and did the engine swap
Sold in march 2013 to STi Shane.

He owned it for 4-6 months and now is in Waterford who owns it for about 7 months.

I was looking at this before I bought my classic. I was told on a couple forums that it was supposed to have had a manual boost controller fitted and that's why the turbo went.

You'll want to have a compression and leak down test done before committing. Give Dave a ring, he'll know the car as I can't imagine there's another like it.

this ^^^is the current owner. he is having it only few months. I remember him saying that the turbo went and he decided to recondition. Also think the WR1 engine was fitted by dave (sti tunning)

yeah and now there is a new VF35 turbo going into it next week. doesnt sound great

Rang Dave just awhile ago, couldnt get through. He rang me back within 2 minutes and gave me lots of info on it. some gent to be fair!

UPDATE: turbo was taken apart (By Tom, Mad Racing, Waterford). No problem was found in the reconditioned turbo, so its being put back in. Its running a single solenoid boost and its not holding the boost as well as a double solenoid controller. :turbo:

Lads this means nothing to me really. If anyway could explain this better to me that would be great. Was planned for a new turbo to go in as he heard a whine from it and thought it was the bearing.

Basically should I leave it go or still consider purchasing?

Unless I'm mistaken, standard boost solenoid will be at least a twin port. Has he a dyno printout?

Look, just go look at another car.. This has pain in the arse wrote all over it...and with regards of who "examined" the turbo , that about sums it all up

Current owner had it for sale a couple days after he bought it. It's possible he for nabbed with it but you'll never know as nobody is going to admit to messing at the car.

"Hi, I'll let you know what the story is tomorrow as it could be just a leak in the up pipe on the standard exhaust system as the noise only started when I put on that system for the nct. I'll ring you tomorrow and well see what the story is."

This is what I got when €4000 was offered. Originally if all checked out fine first day I was paying €4800. (Asking price is €5500)

Still in love with the car but I dunno if it's worth the hassle now. I think it has great potential though.

It could be, he is just clueless and very little could put it right. Advice is get a mechanic who is familiar to have a look. It could be a costly venture if it goes pear shaped. :sold
