HELP. Anybody know this Subaru?

Hey lads, on my daily 1999 Toyota celica st202 it's €900 a year fully comp (jap import declared also)

I rang last week and gave them a reg of a known Subaru Sti and it cost €100 to change over till July. (My renewal month)

I don't know what it would cost when renewing. Presumable a bit above €900.

The only plus is I have no major expenses and earn good money at the moment.

So you're saying a stock Impreza @ 227bhp can keep up with a stock STi @ 260+ bhp?
Not being smart, genuinely asking. (Bhp figures could be wrong too)

Very good prices. Insurance is very much figures in the air. I'm the same age and I couldn't get a quote on an ST202 or GT4. Renewal on my DC5 last October was €1450 then when I switched to the STI I went up from TPFT to fully comp for only an extra €3 a month.

I was actually going to start a thread asking about insurance, it must be after letting up a bit, there is a lot of new people to the Subaru world popping up on here lately... More than I've seen in a good while

Ha good one tommy :scoobydoo:

For out right pace in a straight line obviously the sti will be quicker
However the point me and dec are making and evo article I attached that down the a twisty road a well piloted Wrx can stay in touch.Plus the Wrx is much nicer to live with day to day more comfortable less harsh on the roads (Irish uk Wrxs are optimised for our roads with suspension and damper settings to match jdm Stis are set up for smooth and fast sweepers.

Now I'm not running down the sti great car and top of the breed but anyone in a Wrx shouldn't feel they are in the lesser car some people prefer smaller chested girls that have other skills horses for courses
And in the end we all tend to improve what ever cars we buy anyway like my car now running 341 Bhp and 333 lb ft in a car that's 65kg lighter than same model blob sti (1470 kg v 1395kg)

Best of luck with your search rich sounds like ins won't be a problem for ya good luck with whatever you buy

The wrx is a well capable car but if you put the same driver in both standard cars, the sti will always win on a straight or twisty road.

Neither Ciaran or dec's wrx's could be considered standard anymore so competing against stock sti's will always be marginal or even favourable towards your cars.

Also not that long ago there was a lot of talk about how a jap sti is a far superior car to a euro sti, even though they are essentially the same spec on brakes, suspension etc, but now apparently a wrx is almost the same as an sti....
if you can afford the running costs, insurance etc then get an sti.

I still stand by that statement the jdm is fair superior to euro spec but what I'm saying is that for some one looking for a good fast car the wrx is one and shouldn't be discounted as one. Yes obviously the sti is the better car but their not as far apart as lads reckon they are that's all I was saying.

If a JDM Sti is far superior to a euro Sti then by that logic a WRX and Sti shouldn't even be compared too each other.
No doubting a WRX is a good fast road car but applying your argument about the 2 types of Sti I can't see how you can then turn around and say a WRX and Sti are not that different.

A jdm is superior then euro counterpart.

Some models more then others. Cosmetic and mechanical.

bugeye jdm sti. Factory black glass, factory xenons, back window with, shorter ratio box in 5th and 6th, big port heads (alone worth 20-25bhp on stage1 map then euro/us heads)

Blob jdm STi. Factory black glass, factory xenons, back window with wiper, shorter ratio box in 5th and 6th, big port heads, twin scroll, dccd, orange led speedos.

Hawk JDM STi, The euro cars caught up somewat in spec. Both have the orange led speedos, both have dccd, both have factory xenons etc. JDM still has Factory black glass, back window with, big port heads, twin scroll. Stayed 2.0L a lot lot more reliable then 2.5. A euro hawk with say a failed engine be a fantastic purchase at right money and build a 2.1 stroker say and tax class back to 2.0L.

STi of course are better then WRX.

A modified WRX yes can keep up pace etc. But needs mods to do so.

And still be minus few goodies like 6 speed and brembos.

I love the way people get hung up on sti imprezas a well driven Wrx stock can keep pace with a sti

its like which is most appealing the beautiful flat chested girl or the beautiful girl with big jugs , you know which your going to gravitate towards

Which one has the Sti ?

I got out of my standard v6 sti and got into a fresh bugeye Wrx a few years ago and drove it And it seemed like a non turbo.. So I can't really understand how people can think that a standard Wrx will be as quick as an Sti...

A classic Wrx got away with it because of its weight.. But heavier newage Wrx cars really need the extra power IMO.
Perhaps the 2.5 Wrx is better due to torque, I haven't driven one so don't know but definitely the 2ltr newage Wrx was a disappointment to me.

And I also had the mis fortune of having a "Tuned" Bugeye Wrx.. Which would have had more power than an sti on paper but it was still all foreplay and no sex, barely able to beat a k20 ep3 civic over a quarter mile.

To me comparing Wrx to sti is like comparing a type r dc2 integra to a Gsr integra... To look at the individual points there shouldn't really be much difference... The bhp figure isn't much different... But the complete package just makes a different car of the type r.. No comparison.

Just to ad, I am in no way running down Wrx cars or people that have them so no offence intended... They are great cars but I don't think they can be compared to Sti's and should be appreciated for what they are and the market they were intended for

Dave I know the plus and minus for euro v jap, thats not my point, im just highlighting something I noticed in decs point making,

1: say jdm is far superiour to euro, then shortly after say
2: say wrx is not that different to sti.

my point is that the above statements are not true and in fact are opposite, wrx and sti are further apart in comparison to euro and jdm sti.
Really it boils down to the fact my views are tinted as I have a type UK sti and decs are tinted as he drives a wrx, end of the day you stick up for your car whatever you drive!!!

eli how can you its completely opposite?? ffs a wrx will do 145-160 mph depending on whats done to it and yes in a quarter mile drag and sti would leave it but overall on an everyday basis they cost the same to tax a little less to fuel and if you and me headed to Donegal from your house in a std wrx and std sti of any year would you really be there that far ahead of me .that's my point and yes I still stand by my opinion about jdms but to say that a wrx is opposite to an sti is just untrue man and lets be honest here how many standard wrx,s are in this country everyone of them are modded and yes maybe its because of some shortcomings in their setup but this chap is getting out an st202 celica so a wrx is still an upgrade that's all im saying if he finds a nice clean wrx its still a good car and when modded they are a great car I think mine has proved that on numerous occasions !!!

My argument dec is that not so long ago you said that a jap sti is far superiour to a euro sti, so lets apply your logic, who would get to donegal first, probably both arrive at the same time due to the fact they are both essentially the same car with some minor differences.
now lets apply same logic to a wrx and sti, the sti would probably get thier first due to it being a faster car with better suspension and brakes.
therefore the difference between a wrx and sti is more than the difference betweena euro and jap sti.thats all im saying.
not long ago you were saying that jdm's were a far superior car to the equivalent euro but now your saying a wrx is basically the same as an sti. You cant have it both ways.

Well said dec
I'm looking at this thread and reading through people running down Wrx subarus (even if they think they are not )and laughing to myself it's unreal.simple facts are stock Wrx is more comfortable as a daily driver less "in your face" please arrest me officer looks which I like and not that much slower as stock
The sti is more exciting harsher on the daily drive slightly worse on juice and a bit quicker and has a 6th gear (which is nice gotta say)

Also the cost side of things is a good point made above by Adrian.
Eli said above everyone will stick by what they drive hiwever I totally apreacite a Sti hardcore ness love it and am stupid enough two have one (keeping my own) in the future but this looking down on Wrx imprezas is stupid they are the same car but one is more highly tuned and upgraded by the factory

im not tryin to eli but for a basic performance car the wrx is not the crap car that everyone thinks they are !! they are still a very fast car and my argument of jdm and euro is transferable to the wrx also, the wrx is very different in japan with better turbos ,bigger injectors different mapping etc any how we have gone completely off topic to the original question so we will just agree to disagree and leave it at that

It's going around in circles now and it's just after getting silly now about who would get to Donegal the quickest ffs.

Ciaran the exact things you point out as a plus point for Wrx are the exact things that people pick an Sti over... We have went from comparing power of standard cars, to tuning them, to the snigger car to drive, to the fuel economy... And now we are driving to donegal aswell..

The sti has out of the factory Superior

Suspension
Brakes
Steering
DccD on certain models
Wider track on certain models
6spd gearbox
Engine, heads, cams, turbo, intercooler, map

Over a Wrx model......
Can anyone disagree with that??????

nobody is ken sure were not retarded im just saying the wrx cant be ignored as a performance car

By no means am I running down wrx's, just the comparisons drawn and differences highlighted previously, I have no doubt if me in my sti were to race dec in his WRX around mondello there would be one outright winner and it wouldn't be me!!!
My fault we are way off topic! As dec said agree to disagree and leave it there! Sorry OP!!

Ken if you read above you will see that I agree with what you said there about the sti being top of the line
I give up wrxs are shite it's like driving a yaris they share nothing with the sti they don't drive the same don't look similar and anyone that has a Wrx should be ashamed of them selves
