im not tryin to eli but for a basic performance car the wrx is not the crap car that everyone thinks they are !! they are still a very fast car and my argument of jdm and euro is transferable to the wrx also, the wrx is very different in japan with better turbos ,bigger injectors different mapping etc any how we have gone completely off topic to the original question so we will just agree to disagree and leave it at that

JDM WRX has same tutbo and same imjectors as euro.

It benifits from AVCS and big port head castings with only slightly milder cams then JDM STi.

And @Ciaran. I dont see anyone running down or laughing as you put it. People are quoting specs and ken said he didnt enjoy his coming from the STi6.

STi new age standard are not hardcore at all. Very comfortable as a daily driver.

Ken if you read above you will see that I agree with what you said there about the sti being top of the line
I give up wrxs are shite it's like driving a yaris they share nothing with the sti they don't drive the same don't look similar and anyone that has a Wrx should be ashamed of them selves

That a pretty immature response at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon.!!

Well some of the statements above are borthering on that... A drive to Donegal?????
Sure using that basis of theory a 1.3 corolla wil get there in more it less the same time if staying within the legal speed limits.

The STI is a Superior car.. It would want to be, it was more expensive to buy new after all..

The WRX is a fine car, it's suspension is snugger but is not as good for performance driving as STI Suspension...

Both cars are different, we are splitting hairs here over an apples and oranges comparison...

I started off my Subaru life in a uk 97 classic and loved it.. I went to sti then... And tried a bug Wrx.. And then back to Sti.. And from there on an STI was the car for me.. As a WRX is the car for you.. You have your preference and I have mine, I prefer to have the real performance car feel... Perhaps the word harsh could be used where someone else likes the Wrx softer set up...

Regards fuel consumption... Jesus there would be very little imo

my point on the Donegal statement was that day to day if goin for a drive or goin to work etc would it really matter to someone on their first Subaru if its an sti or a wrx I personally don't think it would and if a clean wrx could be bought for his budget he would still have a performance car and a good one at that

I think a WRX might be better for day to driving on bumpy rural roads. . For track fun an STi would be my choice. JDM deffo have stiffer springs. It's a case of horses for courses.

Agree.

But normally one of the mods guys would do to a WRX would be fit STi suspension or fit a lowering spring like tein or eibach etc.

As Dec said. The WRX is a super capable car. And with the mods done. As in turbo upgrade and map etc up over 300bhp and some handling mods. Its a very very very able car.

The conversation above was about spec i believe.

And sti have a more superior spec.

And as this originally started with a bugeye STi.

If the option was there to pay e4000 for a 2003 WRX blob.

Or e4250 for a bugeye STi which has all the extras as mentioned. 6 spd, brembos, turbo, fueling interior, etc etc.

I think be crazy if at same money to pass up on the extra spec. In my personal opinion

When you see 2007 Hawk WRX out there with 50k miles for e6500. Thats good value to go up the years and in hawk shape i agree

I'm taking no offence or not taking anything badly Ciaran so there is no worries at all man..

I really think it's an apple and oranges comparison...
Even on price as Dave has hinted at, a like for like year and model WRX Will probably cost you 3-4k less than the STI version...
It's apples and oranges lads.. And Unfortunently it's hard to express your thoughts on the two models without coming across that you are running down one

With my experience of classics only... The difference between the type r and my UK Wrx wagon is massive. Two very, very different cars. STI is so much more focused and capable... But I couldn't drive it day to day. Wrx is much easier to live with.

I've no great experience with newage. Drove a bug Wrx and found it sluggish to my classic Wrx... But newage can be modded and can gain power cheaper due to smarter ecu's. Horses for courses and depends hugely on how you intend to use... Daily or weekend toy.
