help needed on buying first subaru

I wouldnt buy a bag of penny sweets off him. He tried to sell me a tommi mak a few years back that wasnt a tommi mak at all-just had its front bumper changed-and had been painted also for some reason or other. Then he reckoned i wasnt a serious buyer-so i took the 22k i had in my pocket elsewhere. wa*ker.

i read the first post without looking at the link and japcars came straight into me head ,and like paul555ra , i too was lucky enough to get a good car from him(02 bug in pic on left) , had mechanic check it out , (€50)

but .... also had mate who had alot of bother up there , and (chief) would say anything to make the sale .

so im happy after nearly three years but i know others who are not !!!

a few of the traders on here would be ideal to check the car over for ya , its an extra few quid you have to spend but if it saves you buyin a lemon its worth it , best piece of advice is dont rush out and buy the first thing you see , if you buy a slightly older car thats been mapped and looked after it would be a better buy in my opinion

would have to agree tommy although it might be an older car it just may turn out to be the better option as said man dont rush in

Don't rush buying... big, big mistake!!! And don't go near that fella... dodgy as hell... :naughty: heard loads of bad stories... and mileage has miraculously droped on quite a few of his cars! :ponder2:

Plus some really ropey and over priced cars up for sale too! :angry1:

Most of those buy and sell cars are very old ads and already sold at this stage. If ur really set on one get a good mechanic to check it over and use any little problem to haggle on price. Have one myself and they are a great car. Alternatively u could buy a sti tuned one from japan for a bargin these days

Late 2003 ones are the same and should go for less. If I could sell mine for decent money tomorrow I would and get a 07/08 tuned by sti edition

yea i seen that one myself, rang the lad today and he is not really negotiable on the price, a few hundred is all he said but i might knock up anyway to him tommorow and see what he says. But when i rang and asked what grade it was i got the answer of oh its not mine im selling it for a friend even though its billy ahern cars sales.

Anyone got any info on this garage?? he said the mileage is genuine but ive learned to take things with a grain of salt from these dealers. He said the car was up for a few grand more before and he reduced the price. What do you lads reckon is a good price for it if its genuine like he says. At the moment the price is out of my range, so if he is willing to knock more than just a few hundred off i might be interested.

if he can give u an nct garuntee and warranty then id say 10750-11000 would be a good price. consider my da paid 12950 for an 01 impreza wrx sti. the b5 is good value for money and a joy to drive plus cheapish to run. still get a mechanic to take a look at it for u or if u are keen on the japcars one give dave from stitunnin and get him to have a look at it for u hes the one of the top subaru tuners in the country and hes a sound lad.hes based in dunshauglin but he does be up in dublin a bit. he would be a little bit more expensive than ur normal mechanic but u cant beat him for subaru knowledge. be worth giving him a call 0857715343.

cheers man, dont know if i could afford your man to come up for me though. the reason i say 10 grand is my budget is because ive got 11 grand but 1 grand of it is for tax and insurance. 10750 is just off my budget, id see if the owl lad will donate a few hundred but wouldnt say so, ill give him a look at it whens hes home and see what he thinks, if he agrees might go up tommorow or after the weekend and have a look. Yea i really like the newer legacys my insurance is half of an imprezas. I had thought about an impreza many times but i only like type r's and hawkeyes and i want something a lot newer than a type r and hawkeyes are way out my budget, the legacy suits me down to the ground, not interested in the older model just the 03+ one.

anyone know anything or any info on billy ahern car sales??? cheers for the advice so far btw lads :xmas_cheers:

ah dave wudn be that dear 50-100 quid or if u get him when hes up for a business call he might do it for free well worth a call. yeah i no wat u mean imprezas are a gd bit of money alright. il keep an eye open if any other 05 legacy at a gd price comes up and il let u no anyway best of look and keep the lads posted on wat u decide

Im going up to billy ahern car sales tommorow eve sometime to chat about the 05 model and see if anything can be done with the price. It has a clifford concept alarm, 4 new good year eagle tyres and upgraded 4 pot brakes which are all good things. If the price can be swung in my favour i might do a deal otherwise i might start looking at cheaper options.

anyone know what problems to look for on these b5's, and things i can use in my favour for negotiating a better deal except scratches etc. also the mileage is very low, suspect low infact?

not really interested in modding it maybe a few cheap engine mods in time or powdercoating the alloys thats really it though.

also yer man said to me instead of mapping the car for here he uses some engine additive that works out cheaper and keeps it as close to original jap spec as possible, that true or he talking sh*t?

http://www.cbg.ie/Car_Detail.aspx?ID=3699590 Hey thats my B4 for sale now at 7500 ono dont let the cheap price scare you but I got a great deal on a Tdi Golf a month back so the legacy has to go. I have the car a couple of years now and no hassle well looked after and serviced by Dave in STI tuning. :subaru:

you wont find a better car for that money! better spec than that 05 one too with lots of STI goodies :)
