Hi All, newbie from Galway

Welcome here man. I see the Subaru is edging ahead of the Ford. The blob is my fave as you know. Like myself, practicality is important for you. Saloon or wagon you think? Also, if you can find an SL model the leather heated seats are a welcome addition along with the sunroof. Love it on mine.

Cheers man. The Ford is a contender but just hard to get in 5 door here. Ideally think I would like to go with a blob eye saloon. Just always liked them. Like some of the cosmetic mods I have seen from videos and pics on line. So think could play with it a bit more than a wagon to get a different look, but being a family man a wagon probably makes more sense. Also if can insure a WRX and Mondeo sells handy enough then would have to take a serious look at Dec's wagon. It is not 100% what I am looking for but seems seriously mint and very well minded so that would swing it for me.

Cheers man. I need to sort out one or two things before can sell. Waiting on a promotion to come through at work for the extra dosh, was meant to be this month, but chatting manager today and he has no word yet from his boss, usual cuts and that excuses. Also have not looked into insurance yet, but am 38, full NCB so hoping it won't be too bad, well hoping not more than €1k. And finally need to get my wife on board with what I am doing. She is usually cool with all these things, has never ever said no to any car yet, but she been sick and has been in and out of hospital the last while so have not bothered her about it yet :) I just started looking as usually it takes me months before I buy something :)

Anyway the Mondeo, it is a 2012, 2.0 140bhp diesel hatchback, Zetec spec. It has 90k miles and is a UK car. Think I am 2nd owner. Has full history, but is due a service now. Saying that I just did the oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and wiper blades on front a few weeks ago at 90k miles, at 90,700 now. Has recent front tyres, Toyo Proxies T1R Sports, rear tyres are Starmax (was on it when bought it), legal but would change soon enough if was keeping it. New front mintex brake discs and pads and front caliper on drivers side was replaced (was sticking). It was a refurbished genuine Ford one, bought in Carparts Warehouse motor factors here in Galway. Seems to be the way they do it, I had to give back my old one. Replaced dipped bulbs with Osram Nightbreaker plus.

Body is reasonably clean, but has a few small marks here and there, but nothing major in general looks good. Easier to send in a pic than explain. Taxed until Aug next year (€280 per year) and NCT till Jan 2018. Needs a clean up, especially since my son spilt orange juice in the back and thought I cleaned it all but started to smell a bit today. Other than that seems to be driving fine, not overly familiar with diesel engines but it seems fine to me. I don't do big mileage but try not do short spins in it, cycle to work and use her car in evenings for the short trips as much as possible. So it mainly drives me to work on wet days and then weekend trips, which is longer drives.

So apologies I am not quite there just yet, but saying that if it suits anyone you know, then please shout. What do you think it is worth? Had it valued at €11.5 if selling privately (from salesman in Nissan dealer here that sold us my wife's car), does that sound about right? Thanks a mil

Ye he is fairly on the money with that value the only thing is that mondeos are a victim of their own popularity and can sometimes be hard to sell purely because the market is flooded with them. I'll keep it in mind if I hear of anyone I'll let ya know

:banghead: is all I can say. Rang my current insurer and they won't cover it and will lose a chunk of money if cancel as got a deal as got it through a scheme my wife is on, still 10 months left. But checked a few other on line quotes, most said no and cheapest was just under €2k. Will try a more places but not looking good so far.

That sucks man. Try the AA. I had insured through the AA with Aviva for my Focus. I called the AA up, spoke to Vitali actually who's a member here, looked it up on the computer and paid the extra money for swapping over to new car. Hoping that next year it won't cost more than €1k next year now.

Ya I did not do an exhaustive list so not done yet. But at the min between tax, insurance, and NCT it would be over €3k just to get the paper work on the car which is getting out of budget. Was hoping to be done around €2k.

I'm convinced, as soon as you mention the word Subaru the insurance companies just see €€€€ popping up on the computer

Wanted 2k to insure my P1, got an RS mk2 focus all mods covered for a smidge over 600

Massive savings on more powerful car, crazy

I'll wear my black ISDC jacket with logo on the back so you can recognise me and say hello. I have a blue hawk.

Hey, nice to catch up with you at the C&C yesterday and thanks a mil for all the tips, much appreciated.

Hi guys, no update on my next purchase, insurance quotes are a blocker so far. Need to take a day off and ring a few, seems to be more favorable than on line quotes. Just work has been mental so need to do it on a day off or something.

Anyway a potential way around it is to go classic. Heard autoline will do over a certain age. A cousin of one of the guys I know is selling a classic wagon, UK spec. Mileage is low and decent history with it, etc.

Just wondering would a classic make a good daily driver? I did less than 10,000 last year, but that included a trip to France, I cycle to work a good chunk of the time and can use her car in the evenings. So it just goes on the longer weekend trips, and drive to work (9km each way across Galway, but off peak so traffic not too bad) when weather or family commitments require.

Found my wagon way cheaper to insure, also Uk spec but Irish car. Don't daily it myself but wouldn't have an issue if I was. Wagon be ideal for your trip to france too ;)
Failing that, if you want a more practical daily that'll be easier to insure, what about a Legacy or Legacy GTB?
