Impreza Cosworth

50 k is buying the car also includes suspension mods, brakes interior etc, and cossie engine is 15k yes or see your point but no matter how expensive the engine it can still fail, it's still just a group of mechanical parts spinning in a block it still depends on all the same parameters as any other engine would ya not agree?

All the same parameters but the tolerances should be far higher on a car like this. There are so many variables to a failure, as mentioned above, but lot of people buy these type of cars in the knowledge that the forged build offers security against failures....these cars are so fast the won't have been many owners exploiting the full power on any road..it would be interesting to have some background on the failures and how many were done under Subaru warranty or Subaru good grace and not being spoken about?I know if I was the owner of one of these, with plummeting values ,the last thing I would be posting on line would be openly admitting an engine failure..I remember reading the front shocks failed before 30k miles..some owners on scoobynet where quite open about it because it was all covered under warranty...I wonder how open they would be now warranties are finished.

2.5s use a bit of oil. Owner neglects to check it . Failure, simple as that really.

For sure, I'm just speculating.... but this car has 6k service intervals, how much oil could it burn in 6k miles? are they that bad? And surely after 10 years experience with this engine if it was an issue Subaru UK would be reducing the oil intervals even further? I think the EVO FQ400 had 3k intervals..
I think because you lads are good mechanics and you are used to dealing with problems, you tend to be a bit more philosophical about engine failures. I'd be looking at this from then consumer point of view, looking at other 400hp 50k cars...RS4, M3,C63 etc if they were burning dangerous amounts of oils between services and shitting themselves would it be acceptable?

That's bollox Tommy any engine can let go doesn't matter who built it, do you think that because yours is built it can't let go. At the end of the day an engine is just a mechanical device like any other so it can fail like another too doesn't matter how much it cost or who built imo

My point was more about the premium u pay for having built by cosworth written across the top of the motor dec . If you buy a prodrive rally spec car and it blows up off loading it from a truck is that ok because it's just a mechanical device.

Iv seen prodrive built rallycars blowing up, like I said it happens doesn't matter who builds it Tommy at the end of the they are mechanical parts and parts can fail that's my point but I do get the point of it being a premium product and shouldn't fail! Unfortunately they do just like any other engine can

I understand that totally dec .

It's not just a pick I'm having on subaru or cosworth . It would be from anything performing under its design brief .

I think read a figure of 1 litre per thousand miles is acceptable by Subaru before they start investigating further. Which is rediculous on a road car

They are not all that bad , I personally think it's to do with engine design and how it's ran in and driven . Mine is forged and uses about 200ml per 2500km roughly

Every 5k Tommy sometimes less if a track day coming up

Ive done mine every 8k miles. but I'd be driving around like an old woman in it anyway

So many variable of how engine is ran in, when serviced, what fluids, how it's driven etc etc etc. Honda say up to 1 litre for every 1000 miles depending on how driven is acceptable for the K20 engine. Some will use none, some will use the full allowance. In cases were there's FSH and the consumption is higher than allowed tolerances they investigated and where engines were found to be faulty, they were replaced/repaired under warranty or as good gesture.

Sounds the same as Subarus policy .
A road car engine should not use oil between services.
